Is there anyone that knows what the flange size is on the 87' Ford Probe GT Turbo from the 2.2L 12valve engine? I found one in the junkyard and the guy said he had the other one from another car he showed me and he had already cleanedup the turbo and the car only had 22k miles on it. Also I am wondering if ya'll could give me a list of manifolds and turbos that will work on the BP. I figure that if I can get a manifold that will work with that turbo, then it should do fine, it looked a little undersized for the 2.2L Ford engine but I think if we look at it with the 1.8 BP we should be in business. Thanx guys

Well thats possible most of them had no engine badges but I did take pics of the 3 that had the badges and they said KL-ZE on em, I think the badge was on the intake manifold. I would imagine that the rest were prolly the US spec KL-03 but I am sure the 3 that had the badges were, unless they were put on aftermarket. I could'nt tell you for sure, they looked old but so does everything else that was there. They had alot of imports there, old turbod eclipses an old 2JZ-TT with no turbos and a cracked nlock, and even some older RX7's, unfortunatly they had already shed their VAF's. Also I looked at the turbo on an old SAAB 900turbo. Would that be of any use to me? I know that the stock GTX turbo is the VJ20, what others fit with similar flanges, I dont really wanna have to fabricate an exhaust manifold but if it comes to it then I will see what I can do. Any help would be appreciated. I understand that it is not that difficult to fabricate a manifold or atleast an adapter, I recently read in Sport Compact Car about many under the table turbo set ups, ya'll should check it out, it has do-it yourself guides on turboing the KA-24, the D-16 and the US spec SR-20. On the KA-24 they used a turbo from a 5.9L Cummins diesel. Seems kinda big but what do I know.

Saabs, many volvos, and most fords other than the mazda based ones and a few manual turbocoupes typically all run a T3 based turbo, they're ok, but will not be easy to bolt to a manifold that is ready off the shelf unless someone cooked up a decent T3 manifold and is still selling them. The VJ11 from the probe isnt particularly big, but it'll make some power and can be fit to a GTX manifold with a little work, as I remember you can round out the bolt holes and get it to fit. Of course if Dennis wants to say something other than its a good door stop he can tell you what he did back when he had one on his car, lol.-Mike

OK yeah I checked the old thunderbirds but they were all the LX, no turbo-coupes, and the engine bay from the probe hadn't been touched, except for removal of the battery. I think I am going to take the turbo and intercooler and pretty much everything I can carry, he only wanted $75 for the turbo, and that was the one he had already cleaned up. I think I will take the other one too, it has like 76k miles but he said he only wanted $25 for that one, so I figure $25 for a spare isnt a bad idea. And even if its not the best setup it should be able to give me a chance to see if I like having a boosted car with a smaller investment than those that can be had off the shelf. I still gotta get some more money together for the add-on electronics that will be needed. If anyone else has any info regarding experience with similar turbos or others that may be a better option than Probe turbo. I am sorta lookin for something that is small enough to spool fast yet big enough to hold power all the way to redline. I want something that will spool up around 3500-3750rpm.

then you need a hybrid, the VJ11 is a super spooler, its almost instant due to its tiny size, and i started a thread about T3s with internal wastegates, and people have mentioned the VJ11 exhaust side matted to a VF10 or 12 cold side, its from a subaru legacy turbo.
supposidly it promotes fast spool up and a fair size compressor wheel that can almost constant psi until redline
