I forgot what magazine I saw it in, maybe SCC, but they had like 6 of the 2F2F cars and the S2000 could only muster up a 13.9. Maybe they took all of the retarded sh*t out of it to save a lot of weight to run faster, who knows.
Originally posted by SpoolinPro93 I know that one Canadian guy did this but do you feel that this can be accomplished again? I mean, it's just hard to believe that the stock BP could handle 400 wheel horsepwer. Also, did he have the stock transmission? One more question, how much boost can the BP motor handle with proper tuning?
Why is it hard to believe? the Audi/VW 1.8T can do the same thing, the Nissan SR20 has shown to do the same.....also the Toyota 3sge, DSM 4G63, numerous Cosworth products coming out of Ford of England....etc etc.
The Canadian guy got ~550whp... but it wasn't stock. With some headwork, and more static CR, and a decent set of pistons, it's NOT that hard. No, the normal guy off the street couldn't keep it together, but do a lot of research on tuning and turbo dynamics, and it works.
over 300 lb-ft, you're going to tear up gearboxes....simple as that. Nothing you can do to fix them cheaply either.

Yes, the cars that they actually used in the movie were very midly modified. I think the fastest car they tested was the COPO Camaro, it ran like a 13.2 or something.
sk33t - you probably saw what they had done to it after the movie, because all the movie cars were like CAI and exhaust, that's it.
12.6 pounds of boost is pretty good considering its a 1.8L engine
but just for comparison the evo runs 19.5 from a 2.0L engine thanks to its twin scroll turbocharger.
Its just hard to belive such a good motor came in a 10 thousand dollar car lol, i know my buddies delsol was 19 grand in 93 and it was just as fast with less options as my protege with a 1.6 sohc vtec motor

what are you talking about? What does that have to do with anything?
how can you compare ANYTHING with that bull**** info?
the problem with average people who want to make their cars fast is that they only do basic bolt on parts, if ots not a 15 minute job no one wants to do it, then when they put their intake and exhaust and only gain 2 hp they get all pissed off, with proper engine tuning, and the right parts like pistons, headjobs, and money you can make any car ungodly fast, everyone wants fast cars, but no one wants to spend the money. or be the first one to try new stuff out.
From having a gtx in my protege bone stock at 10psi on the n/a bp ecu and having tried the gtr engine in my friend escort, i came to like my vj-20 better then the vj-23 on the gtr. Yes it has more potentiel but my gtx pull has soon has i touch the gas his gtr takes a little more time to start put then it never stop pulling more. Depens on what you want a fast reaction that tops out or a little slower reaction but that pull more and more has rpm goes up. For daily driving and the track i prefere my car but on the highway damn is killing every thing that comes by.

dude did you read what jesse said!
look douchtard, for starters in the alternate reailty world of 2F2F the car was suposed to run a 13.1. in reality it runs a 13.9 @ 99.3mph. [July 2003, Sport Compact Car] quit babbling bogus facts that you make up on the spot! and your all so bogus site is wrong/uninformed. i love how you can't find it. and the 13.1 is the time quoted by Ted Moser the transportation cooordinator for the movie!
and on a side note: the for mentioned mx-3 broke out with an 11.1 run. it was not allowed to run again for lack of a roll chage. The car was sold to a guy in Quebec, without a drivetrain. The mx-3 eventually had to have a custom built drivetrain from flywheel back.
the car was awesome when it ran, the question was on which day would the car decide to run for the owner. it was and still is unreiable. but that is the price for a tuned BP.
When you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

Yes, still have it. It was my attempt to immortalize you in verse.
A Protege driver named Brock
Once said 7 seconds he'd clock.
So his engine he goosed
With much too much boost,
And drove a rod through his block.
