i thought the vj-11 had a bigger exhaust and a smaller intake compared to the vj-20. which is why it spools a little slower than the vj-20 and doesn't have the same power.
the vj11 has a p20 housing the VJ20 has a p15 housing. housings are interchangeable. if your looking to flow more then the VJ20 housing you could put a VJ11 housing on. it will spool slower but MAY proove some increase in top end.
i think you would see 0 gains with the larger a/r exhaust housing on a vj20. you'd need to upgrade to a much larger compressor for it to be worthwhile. in that case, i think it would be.

so there wouldn't be much power difference after spool up between the 2 turbos really? assides from a differences in spool time (probably around 4-500rpm)

hmm i might be inclined to see off my T3 and go with a vj-11 hybrid then...hm...that with a vj-17 cold side would rock!
JACK.
I had a vj14/vj17 hyrbid on my mx3 with the b6t block and b6de head.
It was an awesome street turbo, i was maxing out the stock 330's at like 14 ish lbs(bumped fuel pressure and ran 17 psi one night, lots of fun)
Before i blew it up (long story) it would spin all of first/second then bark third really hard, this was on a factory replacement clutch (long story again).
It may run out of breath up top for a BP, so the larger vj11 exhaust housing may do the trick.
If i didn't go with my T3/T04E i would have had this turbo rebuilt.

the T-Bird/VJ-11 hybrid,would not outpreforme the smallest .42/.48 t3,
the hybrid would spool faster but thats it.
but people that are looking for vj-20's all the time, could/SHOULD just go and find a
IHI from a t-brid (87-88 t-brids)and a VJ-11 exhaust housing(mx-6 turbo) and make a hybrid and run that,, making the hybrid is simple as just swaping the vj-11 E-housing onto the t-brid turbo, althou the bolts are ussally a pain to get out!!!!!!!....!!!!!!!..
plus IIRC the vj-11 e-housing flange can be reamed out a little and the bolt holes fit the stock gtx e-manny.(im not 100% sure about this, but i remember reading about it a long time ago)
it would be a lot better than the weak vj-20 and alot cheaper and easyer to find
thats what im talking about Ryan1, if i were to go with a 11/17 hybrid...parts would be cheap and parts would be simple to find. If i destroy a turbo, it won't bother me as much lol.
And yes you can slot the bolt holes on the vj-11 to fit the bp-26 manifold
