    basics for a gtx swap?

ok, i've been reading a LOT in the past couple years about boosting. now, for instance, if i were to get a gtx motor, gtx ecu, supra intercooler, rx7 vaf, plumbing, clutch and swap a reg BP flywheel, and some type of BOV...what else would i need for this?

is a MBC or EBC really needed? because you can just add bolt ons that will increase your CFM which increases the psi that is forced into the intake, right? like solid intercooler piping, bigger intercooler, different bov, exhaust, downpipe, rx-7 vaf ect.

just wondering on the basics, because all im going to pick up extra is an a/f gauge and a new 4wire o2 sensor.

just need some advice ahead of time.

ps. i've heard of people getting boost cut at 5.5k and having to ground off a wire from the harness @ the ecu end...but i cant seem to find the post for that. any ideas on what is needed for wiring?

    thanks again guys.

    JACK.

I don't have a boost controller and I get around 11 psi from the stock vj20 wastegate with a CS downpipe. Off the top of my head add to the list: fuel pump, injectors, boost gauge, downpipe and exhaust.

oups, i already have exhaust. and im getting a full gtx motor, so it comes with everything else. and from what people have told me, running 7-10psi on a stock fuel pump wont hurt anything.

        but yea, boost gauge, oups.

that should be it .. those basic things are good to start with.. then once you get it running right thats when boost controller.. and other upgrade then comes along...oh dont forget about your fuel management.. also as for the boost cut .. i think this only happens if you have the whole GTX harness and if you have the aussie spec ecu..

I would get a walbro pump just to be on the safe side. Yes your pump might be ok for stock boost, but you WILL want to up the boost, and your going to need a larger pump. No need to skimp on the fuel management, you dont want to blow your motor just because you didnt want to spend an extra 100 bucks on a fuel pump.

yea, its just that i replaced my fuel pump just over a month ago, lol, so i want to hold off. but yea, i probably wont wanna up the boost to much, just keep upgrading parts to bring the power up. i just want a daily driver that makes me go 'holy ****!' when i step on it...she almost does that right now, so shouldnt take to much

what do you mean by fuel management though? the motor is coming with everything but the intercooler and piping, and im picking up a gtx ecu...shouldnt that control the fuel?

because i probably will end up adding a piggy back system in the late future, because i'm going to rebuild the BP im pulling out to replace, then probably go T3 or just save the motor for another donor car (323 possibly)

Your going to need to tune the VAF a little. Get on a dyno and move it around till you get safe air/fuels.

i ran my stock fuel pump for the last year and a half i had my car running with no problems other than a thrown rod (which was a combination of a couple things such as the 150k or so on the clock and the last 30k were boosted with me driving it) but i had no fuel issues at all. i burned my high flow fuel pump up becasue i never fixed my fuel starvation issue... so i just installed a new motorcraft fuel pump and had no issues with it.

so a desired a/f is high 11s low 12s, right?

I only upgraded my fuel pump this year. Ive had the gtx engine in the past 3 or 4 years now. Car ran fantastic. I had the basic gtx engine swap with no boost controller the gtx ecu and the car at 10 psi. Heres my dyno chart from last year.

Car was really nice for a daily driver. Made really good power and fast spool.. Just look at that torque curve!

Anyway, there is not as much to turboing a car as you think man. It might seem complicated but its really not. If you have any Q's feel free to PM me.
