    external wastegate vs. BOV

ive been doing some research on these things, but i cant seem to find a side by side comparison of the two. i know the wastegate is situated on the exhaust mani and the BOV is on the intercooler piping (i know it can be on before or after the IC with different results) but anyway, i digress. im looking for some info on how they compare. which offers more control of boost? im guessing that the ext wastegate controls boost better, but the BOV is easier and less costly to install. how far off am i on these suppositions?

The wastegate is the only one that controls your boost level.

A BOV does nothing to control boost.

The bypass/blow off valve just vents pressure before it slams into the throttle plate, hopefully stopping boost surge

bov 's are sometimes used to control boost in supercharger apps but its rare, i think this is what leads to peoples confusion

ah, so you do need both. if youre just using the internal wastegate of a turbo, then you still need a bypass valve or BOV to vent excess boost. but you still need a wastegate to control the boost levels. is that right?

I think it's best you review how a turbocharger setup works: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

well, im much more versed on what it would take to supercharge a BP since thats what ive been planning on doing for awhile. i never really studied turbo's since i wasnt gonna do one. however, since im engine is finally going south on me, a SC is somewhat impratical. so im just gonna get a GTX.

i was a forum member for a couple years before i finally decided i could do it... then another full year (almost to the day) after i bought a large portion of a gtx setup and it sat under my bed for that time while i searched and aquired the missing pieces.

I would say go with the Supercharger man. Get an Eaton M62 from a Mercedes SLK. I have all the flange patterns you need in AutoCAD right now

Just use a BP26 or RX7 VAF with the BP26 ECU and BP26 injectors.

That would make for a very unique setup. Oh...I find the H-34 (basically a bypass version of the RFL BOV) works the best for a Supercharger Bypass valve. Get the weakest spring you can find.

lol, i want to cuz noone's really done it on a BP. however, the engine i have in my car is pretty much toast. its burnin oil like a mofo so adding boost would just kill it i think
