Do you have an alarm on your car already? My roomate got an alarm that had a function built-in that will allow the car to run for a preset time after you remove the key from the ignition... Exactly what a turbo timer does

i didnt think the whole car ran... i thought it just kept the oil pumping through it and that was it?

Most or our cars do not have electronic oil pumps so this is almost impossible. Turbo timers are timed controls that allow you to remove your key, lock your car, and let your car run for a few mintues while the oil cools down. And then turn off after the preset time. Or you could just sit in your car for this time. ;p

Okay so this just allows you to leave during the cool down period. I know the Mazdaspeeds have a cool down period of around 30 seconds so I figured a minute for my car would be safe. Especially since I will be running a t25 as well.

              what the heck !!!...
the boost controller relieves the built up pressure in the system in between shifts, Usually it is rerouted back into the system with our cars to avoid a overly rich reading by the ecu...

The turbo timer will keep the car on for a certain amount of time so that the turbo can cool down. This is good for after you have driven hard.
There are some alarms that come with this feature, but you have to make sure that you leave the car in neutral when you do it ... Or the car will frigin take off.

Some turbo's come with internal wastegates and some don't. It's optional.

The 1.5 is not as weak as you think . I bet it will take 10 lbs of well tuned boost.
You will need an upgraded feul pump, You can use ES protege injectors if you want to.
You can also get the head ported to allow better flow.

Make sure you do your research on boosting before you jump in knee deep...
Get the Corkybell book, I have it on it's way to me...

Also, I don't see the point of swaping to a 1.8 and leaving the car automatic.. ewww. for gods sake, go to the junkyard, find a 1st or 2nd gen 5speed. and just swap everything over.

So Bruce I'll get your word on this one. Do I need a turbo timer, yes or no?

Boost controller controls how much boost the turbo will put out. You connect it inline with a tube from the wastegate to the pressure side of the turbo(like the intercooler pipe that connnects to the turbo outlet), so it can see how much pressure is being put out. When it reaches a certain point, it opens the wastegate to let exaust go around the impeller, so you dont run more boost which could harm the engine. A turbo timer just keeps the engine running after you get out, and lock up the car. Like was said before, it keeps the oil moving so it does not fry the turbo. It hooks to your ignition and your e-brake, it will only activate when the e-brake is in the "up" position.

Whoops accidentally looked over this post. I ordered a triple guage din pod. I am going to move the radio down one spot and put the gauges in the din area where the radio used to be. And since I have the dx I am going to get a 3 3/8" tach and mold it into the air vent with bondo.

If you guys dont get the turbo timer you will need to sit in the car while it idles for a few minutes. Sometimes the wait is fine but sometimes you really dont have the time. I have five friends with dsm s and i know that the cool down period is not optional if you want to keep your turbine in good condition. So you are probably are going to have to choose: wait with the car or let the timer wait for you.

Although it doesn't sound like a big deal now, I can see having to sit in the car for a few minutes everytime you get out to start getting very annoying. Anybody know how difficult it is to wire a turbo timer?

Just a few wires, all depends on what model you buy, the APEX-i is about 6-8 wires, hooks into ignition, power, few other things for saftey. Some have extra things like AF readings and voltage monitoring. There all simple and stright forward.

Cool. I'll just find a basic one since I already have a volt and air/fuel gauge.
