Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I also noticed that the front brakes are smaller on the 323, but with the lightened front brakes I did on the Protege it comes out to the same weight right now. I'm going to just run the Protege spindles/brakes until I get a chance to rebuild the 323 spindles and lighten up the 323 rotors.

oh, and now you can run manual steering to save more weight and get a little more power. My family has lots of bg's!

If he's up for that.... autocrossers tend to keep power steering. Everyone, and i mean EVERYONE suggested that i keep power steering on my car. I decided to give de-powered rack a shot, but am fully aware that it might suck balls.
I think the bigger issue is that the ratio on that manual rack is horrid.

The ratio is bad, but with really wide, really sticky tires, it can get VERY hard to turn, especially in esses and slaloms. power steering actually made me faster when I re-installed it in my AE86.
Regarding the OEM passenger mirror delete, I'd be willing to trade you my factory delete for your factory mirror.
And SWEET! I can be in FSP in my 323 now, since it's got the dohc already!

(Likely make a bit more power than a BP on SP-legal prep.) Shouldn't weigh much more if at all.
HRM.

The V6 MX-3 is just kind of hung out in no man's land in DSP along with a few other cars that aren't quite fast enough. There really isn't much anyone can do about it outside of building a 100% full blown Nationals car, putting a respected driver in it for several years and prove it's slow enough for FSP.

I have to ask ??? any update progress pics on the 323 Build ?
CrazyCanadain and myself have been running the 323's in AutoX here in Canada for the past 2-3 years.
My car has slowly progressed and is more and more competitive, and Crazycanadian is balls out fast now ..
Would be great to compare cars , parts , specs with you ..

There isn't really anything different about the 323 from the Protege. All the parts just swapped over. The rear spoiler is different, but we don't use it all the time depending on the balance of the car. I'm going to be redesigning the front splitter this winter and hopefully getting a custom header made. I've got some things to try with the intake manifold also. New double adjustable Konis should be here in a month or so. I have some plans to lighten the brakes further and possibly install a 5.5" clutch/flywheel if I can afford it. I've been messing round with the fuel pump setup to run less fuel, but not really making much progress there.
Let me know if you want any specific #s/specs. I haven't weighed the 323 yet. I'm very curious to see how much less it is than the Protege and where the bias is front to rear.

I got to weigh mine at the Canadain Nationals this year and, with it in its current configuration ( Full Interior, Factory Audio, almost full tank of gas ) I came in at 2341 lbs.
I need to look into the corner balancing of the car as the numbers came out alittle wonky. LF 776lbs, RF 707Lbs, LR 390lbs, RR 469lbs
I am planning to start lightening it where I can to shave the weight with with so much gas I have to run. If I go to under a 3/4 tank I get fuel starve in deep brakeing corners.
But I guess you know all about that ... if you find a solution for running less fuel please share :0)
I will have to dive into you protege build more deeply to see your suspension set up. I am running 550 fronts , 400 rears ( K-sport GT pros )
From your pictures you have much less body roll than I do, plus I get alot of third wheelin in the corners. You seem to have that under contol with your setup.Last edited by 323Permin; 10-20-2013, 10:28 PM.

I had the Protege down around 2230lbs. I'm hoping to eventually get below 2100lbs on the 323, but need to see where it is right now first. I've played around with multiple fuel pumps transferring fuel to the main pump in the tank. That didn't work. My next experiments will be using an external pump fed by an internal pump. I tried just using an external pump, but ended up killing it when it started vapor locking at a really hot event over the summer. I'm hoping a new exhaust setup will help that a little. Our Supertrapp muffler dumps a lot of heat right at the gas tank.
The Protege started out at 600f, 450r. The 323 is now at 700f, 550r. If you go back through the build take a look at our swaybar setup. That's where our car starts to get a little weird. The 3d Gen struts on it allow us to run dual front swaybars, but hook one to the struts and another to the control arm. That helps eliminate binding and it allows us to use the higher motion ratio of the strut to get more out of a smaller swaybar along with the add on bar mounted to the LCAs. Put's us right in the sweet spot up front for balance with a stock rear bar.
I'm putting a really good setup guy in the car with me next season to see if we need to make any tweaks when we switch to double adjustables. There isn't any huge benefits to be had now as far as I can tell. The car does a lot of things really well. It will just be about picking up little bits of speed everywhere which add up big overall.
