The Racing Beat (RB) exhaust system is a three-piece (presilencer, crossover pipe and muffler) cat back design made from 304 stainless steel. The pipe diameter is larger than OEM at 2.375" (60 mm). According to RB's chassis dyno data, available at their website, the system provides a gain of 4.7 HP @ 5,750 rpm and an increase in torque of 5 lbs/ft at 3,800 rpm. Although noticeably louder than stock, it's said to be the quietist of all the 3rd Gen aftermarket exhaust systems. The current price is US $449 + shipping.
The system provided a definite performance increase with the engine seeming to rev more freely and accelerate more quickly throughout the range up to ~ 5,800 rpm. Full throttle acceleration from 60 to 85 mph on the interstate took place in noticeably less time than before, while passing on a two-lane road was accomplished more easily than previously in terms of overtaking more rapidly and therefore spending less time out in the opposing lane. Most striking was the small but noticeable increase in overtaking capability on upgrades as this is not the strong point of 130 HP Proteges. For a more detailed analysis of its benefits, go to:
Because of the reduction in backpressure compared with OEM, it would be expected that the RB system could provide lower fuel consumption than the stock system assuming that this parameter was emphasized over sheer performance.
