if you really want the inside scoop, talk to derrick at Corksport. 503.252.5700.

They are the only place i would trust to do this sort of swap. They know mazda's. I wouldn't trust a typical import car shop. Lets just say that origianlly Derrick quoted me 3k$. 3k$? i could live with that. the end bill after it was all done?.... even with discount around 7$k? and thats even with discounts ( labor $$ cut on half)because of the original quote.

Getting the BPT installed into a 1st gen is easy. but the 2nd gen is a whole new ball game. For starters, getting it to simply over turn over ( the enigne doesn't start like the z5 enigne,, not off the distributor but off the crank) , 2ndly, you have to use a HALTECH (an extra $1200), the gtx ecu does not work. Whats so fun about tuning the HALTECH?? there are no base maps to start with. you start completly from scratch. Other pplz maps doesn't work. I tryed Brandon's map in my car before his injector upgrade and it was worst than my own. i'll let Derrick explain the rest. all in all the project was started DEC '01 and i am just now starting to see the benefits.

Man i swear i told you this before in another tread on protegeclub.com.

at stock boost of 8lbs i was getting 163 hp to the wheels and 184 lb torque.

since then i changed out my exhaust to 2.5 turbo back and am running an HKS boost controller alowing me to have a constant 15 lbs boost.

the 250 is from the fly. about 201 to the wheels. =)

at 1st i did, but after speaking with a guy at CS who had almost the exact same setup as mine (running a 13.4 1/4 mile), he upgraded to the GT-R turbo and didn't see any gains to his track times. the GT-R turbo spools up later than the GTX. The GTX turbo is better for street and daily driving. spooling up at around 2500. I love it.

I wouldn't drag all the time. so a bigger turbo, nah... not for me.

yea the rims i have on my car right now are just for show, way too heavy for dragging. 22lbs rim alone.

but even with the weight it actually is better for me at the moment. when i had my 16" rims my car would constantly either wheel hop or spin out too much.
