cheap step up from 13 inch rims or tire choice for dx rims?

This is my daily driver. However, it will be used for long trips to Florida.

The car tracks pretty straight after it's alignment, but it is pretty tiring to drive long distances with this car picking up every groove in the road, and getting kicked around by air drafts every time a mid sided SUV comes next to it, or when I drive across a metal bridge.

What's the widest tire I can run on these steel wheels without bulging?

Or would I be happier stepping up to 14" wheels? I couldn't find any that I liked on ebay, and really don't want to spend alot of money.

Looks are not the issue here. Please keep in mind that this car is babied and not driven hard.

    Thanks

14's from a Miata or a Protege LX make a nice upgrade. My sig pic of my 323 is with 14's from a 99 miata... they weigh only 12lbs a piece. Right now there are 185/60/14's Bridgestone potenzas that have served me well for the price/purpose. I got mine off of eBay for not too much.
The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.
