    miata wheel fitment

i just picked a set of 16inch miata wheels. 16x6.5 with a 40 offset. i know the wheels will fit, but i want to know which tire size i could fit. was thinking about 215/45/16. what do u all think?

Not a good idea. The Tire and Rim Association calls for a wheel width range of 7-8.5" for correct fitment of a 215/45 tire. Of course, you can do this but it won't be an optimum fitment. With a 45 aspect ratio, a 205 tire should be the widest used on a 6.5" wide wheel. For more information, go to:

Because recommended wheel width for a given tire is a function of both its tread width and its aspect ratio.

i swap wheels and tires between my miata and my 323 all the time.

I also have a pair of 225/50/15 toyos on the stock 15x6 miata wheels, it's not optimal, but it's not the end of the world either.

I think the 215/45/16 size is a pretty good fit, lots of miata guys run it on the stock wheel. It does make it a little bit harder to put on the rim, but a good tire monkey should be able to handle it.

do you do hoosiers at your shop? the sidewalls on those things will kill you. after you pinch fat hoosiers onto stock class tiny wheels a couple of dozen times regular tires are cake.
