Does anyone here understand math and know how to calculate costs?

Lets say I drive a car that gets 34 MPG (I think that is a fair average for Protege/Escort GT's)

Lets also say I live in Washington state.

Lets say it is 2,300 miles one way to the meet for a total of 5,000 miles being driven (to and from the meet, plus local driving).

At 34 MPG, total fuel used will be about 147 gallons of gas. At 4 bucks a gallon average, the cost would be about $588.00 for fuel.

That sounds like alot of money...right?

What if gas was $3.50/gallon? Would you be able to meet the meet then?

Lets figure this out. 147 gallons of fuel at $3.50/gallon would be $514.00. Not much of a difference.

This is extreme. I am sure 99% that was planning on coming from the west coast have something to complain about. That is a long drive.

I live about 350 miles from the meet. I do not drive my BG nor would I drive it to the meet. If I drove my EGT to the meet and I got 34 MPG, I would be driving about 850 miles round trip. That would cost me $100.00 in gas. If I would have driven here if gas was "only" $3.00/gallon, but gas is now too high at 4 bucks per gallon, here is something to consider...

It is now $25.00/extra for the whole trip with gas at 4 bucks, that it would be at 3 bucks.

    That is right, 25 bucks.

Remember that when we do not think twice about forking out hundreds of dollars on some pimping wheels or something else.

Yup, we are willing to let $25.00 stand behind us having a good time.

    That is really sad.

Tom, I'm with you on this. Those within 800 miles...no complaining unless your car doesn't work. bad strut? bah. I put 1000 miles on a strut that clunked cause it was frozen during winter. whatever. Would I have come even with higher gas costs? **** yes. **** yes. I did the math, and it was pennies to the overall cost. 2600 miles round trip for me, that's a good trip. was going to be a nice weeklong trip too, enjoy my time off. But I'm getting married. So, that's my "vacation" for the summer. I hate to see $25 or $75 stop someone from going.

I eat 2 meals at the hotel for free just so I can afford the wedding (before that it was the meet). What's your excuse people?
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I can afford the trip but I can't afford to fix the car right now and the trip.

        Gas costs for the trip-50-60
        Struts-200
        Tires-200
        Mounting,balancing and 4 wheel aligment-150-200.

Right now my budget is saying I can use 100-150. What could I do? I could drive 50mph the whole way. Lol.

For those that have repairs to do. First off, is the car you want to take your daily driver?

If so, why did you let it get this bad already instead of addressing this problem when it first showed itself?

If this is not your daily driver, why MUST you take that car?

With that being said, I spent a few days with riverrunnernky. Went to his place on Wednesday and he followed me to my place on friday. We had a great time.

Going to a meet is not all about showing off what we drive, but moreso getting together with people that share the same intrests as we do.

Yes this is my dd. Yes I let the maintainence go on it. I drive the car 5 days a week for about 24 miles a day. I'm married with kids and I know my car is fine to go to and from work for those little 24 miles. I don't trust it to go 3 hrs. Some things take priority over repairs when you have kids and the economy is taking a ****.

Let me re-phrase that...... I know it will make it to the meet and back. Its more of an annoyance than a "can it make the tirp" thing. That's why I don't mind driving it to and from work. Yes I have a 2002 mpv as well but I don't want to leave the wife and son home with just my car to drive. My car has no p/s or a/c. She would drive it but only if it was an emergancy. I'm not going to make them sit at home the whole time I'm gone. This is a clubprotege meet and to me that means we want to meet with the cars we talk about on the forum.

I know it is a clubprotege meet, but does one have to be driving a Protege to talk? Does a vehicle permit us to talk to each other or does our vehicles put people together that share the same interests?

i knew it... guess I can work on the house this weekend
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.
