    New GTX owner

    Hey everyone,

I've been around in a limited capacity for quite a while now trying to contribute to the BG suspension and brakes as a long time MX-3 owner.

Now I'm branching into the BF world after having just bought a somewhat visually rough but mechanically strong 88' GTX. I was looking for a good winter beater so that I can make my MX-3 a summer only car. Included with the car is a complete (but disassembled) spare B6E engine with turbo and JDM intake and a complete tranny and diff with about 150,000km on them.

The ECU is chipped by RRE and the RRE manual boost controller is installed. The previous owner has been running it at 14psi and figures he's at about 170whp. I have no idea if that's a realistic number or not and would like to know what you all think.

The car has a roll cage. I don't know much about cages so I will have to post pictures to describe it correctly. I don't think it is anything special or would necessarily be certified by any regulatory body of note, but it's kind of cool so I'll keep it. There is the usual rust issues on the rockers and the rear fenders so I'll be patching that up before winter.

My plan is to rebuild the spare engine with 9.0:1 Miata pistons and use the JDM intake and remove and sell the engine which is in the car right now. He purchased this engine and transmission complete from Mazda when they sold them off a while back and it apparently has <20,000km on it. It will be for sale in the next few months if anyone is interested.

I don't have any pictures yet but I will be picking it up soon and I will start a worklog. Excited to have a new toy to obsess about.

well it took me a long time to decide how to proceed but I decided that selling the complete, low km engine has the best likelihood for profit since I don't have to convince someone that I know how to build an engine. Plus it allows me to build the other engine the way I'd like with a bit higher compression.

I can't wait to get into this car.
