    Marilyn <3

Hello my name is Marilyn. I own a Spicy orange Mazdaspeed Protege since 2006 or 2007 (cant really remember). I was searching up online to see the problems on my car and came across clubprotege. I'm usually on M.O.C.C. but just moved from California to Arkansas. By the looks of things, my car doesn't really fit in here. My car has a check engine light on and hoping to get if fix by next week. Anybody know of a shop in Arkansas?

Welcome!!! Not too many members from Arkansas. I could recommend you a shop in Missouri if you were closer. Most of us here try to work on our own stuff. Nice to see a girl around here. Find out what the code is by stopping by o'reillys and we can help you out if your willing to work on it yourself. Post up some pictures of your car.

Actually I have an obd2 reader and it's giving me p0505 and p0325... The p0505 (knock sensor)doesn't really bother me cause it's just the sensor that's busted but car runs fine. I'm having a problem with p0325 (iac system). When I turn on my ac, the car stalls when I stop. I was reading online that I can just clean the part and check wires but I don't know what part is what yet. If doesn't cost too much for labor then I'll probably just have a shop do the job.

Salutations. IAC is simple. Look for it on the throttle body, as that's what it is meant to bypass. Often times when crud builds up inside there, the ECU thinks it has the Idle Air Control Valve open wide enough to let adequate air bypass the throttle plate, a suitable amount to permit proper Idle speed, but the blockage is restrictive enough to choke down the amount of air to an unsuitable level, preventing the engine from achieving proper idle. When the RPM's begin to drop in excessively blocked situations, the ECU tries to accommodate by further opening the IAC, which can lead to the RPM's jumping too high, so it again will close the IAC and that's when Idle RPM's start to bounce. If the ECU does not respond quickly enough is when it will stall.

It's likely that yours is dirty enough to cause it to stall while under a load at idle, such as utilizing AC or power steering while idling. (unless you are experiencing an Idle that hunts up/down when AC is off, then it may be more severe) Either way, you can remove the IAC and clean it with a suitable Aerosol throttle body cleaner product, and inspect it for anything out of the ordinary.

I am not familiar with the turbo FSDE powerplant, as I've never owned one, but most vehicles I have owned usually have between 2-4 fasteners attaching the IAC to the throttle body, and most times (almost always) a new gasket is necessary. This process should not cost an excessive amount at a shop, but is a simple enough task that someone handy should be able to do it and save some coin.
