Hi, new to the forum. What I'm looking for at this time is info about where the starter is located on a 1994 mazda protege DX SOHC? It's the basic model 1.8 L.
The car has 199 000 KM on it and the starter has never been changed.
Basically I'm in a "no crank, no start" situation where the engine won't attempt to start. I hear a faint click noise but nothing happens when I try to start the vehicle. The lights on the dash do come on.
I thought the battery might of been toast. I can't start the car with a jump from another working vehicle. So I look the battery to Canadian Tire and they tested the battery - the battery is fine.
The oil levels are fine and there's no corrosion on the battery connections.
I'm trying to locate the starter and tap it several times then attempt to start the vehicle or get someone to tap it while I start the car but I don't know where the starter is or what it looks like on my car.
My uncle said I could find the location from a quick google search but I couldn't find anything so I'm hoping someone here might know about it or even have a diagram or a picture.
Do you know if you have to access the starter from the top of the vehicle or from underneath the car? I don't have the owners manual but not sure if it would even have this info. If underneath, would I need to jack the car up?
My understanding is there are 2 bolts holding the starter in. You disconnect the battery, disconnect the wire from the battery to the starter, take the 2 bolts out and the starter drops or twists off. Does this sound semi accurate how one would remove the starter? Sorry for so many questions. I have never done this before.
