Just a Dreamer Looking For Answers

    Sup all?

Name's Alex, I have a '91 Protege DX that I'll have had for a year come December. While there are many mods and parts I want to add, there's 2 major factors holding me back: Lack of part availability, and lack of knowledge. So I've signed up, and hopefully won't annoy you guys with all the questions, but there's stuff I want to do that I can't if I don't know how. So thanks in advance, and let's all learn something new!

Welcome. Be sure to use the search function, this forum has been around for quite a while and you will find tons of good information in old threads.

Easiest option for you will be a complete BP swap (with g-series transmission) from a Protege LX or Escort GT. If you install a decent clutch when you swap the BP in there you can you can always make the car significantly faster later on by simply bolting up a GTX turbo setup & ecu.

Yeah, that seems to be how the plan's developing; I've tried reading up on BPT swaps cuz I want to do one, but I've heard of The BP G-Series Transmissions (G5M-R I suppose) blowing up after not too long use (but it's looking like my best option- like I said, still learning, still new), and the 4WD proteges that the canadians got were not made to hold power AT ALL, apparently those blow driveshafts, so that's another thing I'm a bit lost on. The G5MX-Rs from my understanding are the 4wd transmissions that come with the BPTs, but I've already spent so much money and time at my local PaP to do a full 4WD swap, and know nothing of how to keep all that half of the power from being wasted with a disconnected driveshaft (which I think someone told me it could ALSO blow the trans, so... yeah).

For now, the current status on my project is to get rid of my rear drums and put in these rear discs I got from the PaP, and currently waiting on parts to ship so I can finally install parts. But according to ProtegeFAQ, I fell short of the bar on req'd parts. So we'll see if it can work. Thanks for the suggestion, rieldeal!
