So tonight I filled it up with water, but as it was running with the rad cap off, it was overflowing the rad..... This is with a cold engine...... So first thought was thermostat, pulled the thermostat, problem solved for now, then I noticed water dropping from the crank pulley.... Great, now I gotta do a water pump on it, ugh

I'll put another t-stat in it eventually lol, it was just something free to try for now

I should get the water pump changed over the weekend and hopefully go for a test drive

But on another note, while I had it running, it was idling at ~750rpm and the HLA tick has quieted down too, so at least it's running better already

Sucks about the water pump dude. At least they are cheap and relatively easy to do. My dad is just about finished with a $600 water pump change on his car, and I'll be doing a KL next week hopefully.

Yeah everything is over priced for his car. Plug wire set for example, $1200. It's nice to have cheap Mazdas that are faster.

So today I got the water pump changed and while letting it idle, I looked at the tailpipe and........

I hope it'll clear up but I doubt it, looks like I may have to do a head gasket.... Ugh I should just swap in a KL lol

Ya I wasn't too impressed about it but Andrew did warn me about it, he said it had a problem with mixing oil/antifreeze and it was obvious when I drained the oil out of it, so I swapped over the old oil cooler in hopes that was the problem, but it's looking like the old oil cooler was just fine and that it needs a HG, oh well though, I'll get it going, eventually lol

                              Today's progress

                              Nice and clean in there

Got the head off and got it cleaned up, there was two head bolts that came out tooo easy, either they got missed being torqued or they came loose somehow, either way I'm hoping that was the problem lol

So I'm just waiting to get my hands on a torque wrench and I'll get it finished up ASAP

                                How did the gasket look?

Also, I think torque wrenches are on sale at crappy tire this week.

Edit: the old engine *may * have arp head studs in there if you care to reuse them. I can't remember if I threw them in there or not, but I think I did. Popping the valve cover would tell you quickly.
