Wait a minute. Are you talking about the 16 valve b6 being able to swap heads with the B6DE DOHC from a mx3? Because I have the 8 valve... Could I just swap over the Dohc pistons and rods with it and it still work or is it totally different being the 8 valve?

if you have a b6 now(which is what you say), all you need to do is get a head, intake mani, exaust mani, timing belt, idler pullys and swap on any head from a 87-89 mazda 323 GTX or GT or from a 4cyl mazda MX-3. use a headgasket for what ever head that you use and the felpro #'s may be different to route the oil in different direction through the head but most of the holes will line up for return into your block. you do not need to change anything in the bottom end for this to work. use your stock ecu, sensors and stock injectors and everything should fire up as long as u didnt F something else up while doing all the above

          89' se 1.6 sohc b6

i have the same car as you.... i see the car we have... alot of people dont deal with it but im willing to give a shot i just got it 2 years ago and will try to do something with it. By over reading im gathering information to basically getting the right parts i need and the best way i see is swapping out parts from like a GT or GTX in 88 or 89 year. I see the best way for us to do something is just get parts from the B6T car

Yeah its weird why no one does much with the 4 door 323's. Their good cars and i think they look just as cool as the hatch. Ive reolozed that the b6t cars are the best for parts too. Deeaone has a 88 or 89 323 4 door and hes doing a sick kl-de v6 swap in it. Hes one of the first to it in that chassis though. are you planing on trying a head swap or are you going to go full motor swap?

Right now im in the process of painting it white, and Ive been lazy... So far Ive done KYB struts and B&G's sport springs. Energy susp poly sway end link bushings all the way around. It also has an intake cone filter with stock piping and a 2 1/4" exhaust that flows out the side which i got done for free : ) I also did a 95 civic short shifter. Ive replaced some stuff as well.... wheel bearings I distinctly remember... I plan on trying a port and polish on the b6 head, Im wondering what the gains would be like. I eventually want to do a DOHC head swap if I can find one. If you do it before me you should make up a work log and let us know how it goes. Im curious...

It's been a few months now. How's it goin' with the head swap? The controversy over this being possible is a real drag! Please let us know either of you (darrous, Threetwenty3) were successful or not. Thanks!

http://members.aol.com/solomiata/MX5Engine.html <----- Too bad this site went down, there was TONS of great info there.

OK... now that I dug up a little info, would one of you jerks put this info in a FAQ or something?

Oh, and I'm soooo done with this topic.

                      Adios.

Not certain if you're blatant frustration is directed at the inconsistence and variation of response or at the new owners of 323s with B6s who've recognized the potential of their vehicles and thus have the desire to up-grade.

Either way, it's an excellent post and I thank you for your effort; However, I'm still hoping for that ultimate B6 SOHC\DOHC swap thread with plenty of photos with one or the other of these titles:

                        "Here's how I did it..."

                        "Here's why it didn't work..."

My frustration is directed to car forums - I have a love / hate relationship with them.

If you end up doing this, I hope you post a build log too, then you'll probably be one of the very very few to have made this work. If memory serves me correctly, I believe that there was someone from Puerto Rico, who was drag racing a BF with a highly built SOHC engine. You could try your luck with finding them and asking some questions. I think their engine was boosted, too.

But in the end, it'll be your build log that will inspire, or deter, the next SOHC fanboy who will come to the forum (and you know goddamn-well that they aren't going to search) in search of the ever-elusive, most fabled, the holy grail of SOHC power which might even break the 160HP mark.

So, off you go! Lay down that one-wheel tire-fire of awesomeness! I wish to revel in the sounds of fury from your 44.45mm exhaust!
