Massive shifter play

I have a stock 89 1.6 FWD 323.

The shifter, when in gear, wobbles a good 1-2 inches... Is this because of how long the shifter is? Or is it abnormal?

if its not cable, your bushings are SHOT. mine were too. its a real simple process to replace them.

I wouldn't know where to get the bushings though, since parts for these cars are rare as fk.....

I'll let you guys know what kind of shifter it is on friday, since I don't have the car with me right now.

www.corksport.com? They don't have the BF listed, but if your shifter isn't the cable type, you could probably use the BG (90-94) Protege bushings. That's what I'm going to use in my BH. I don't know if they ship to PR, but you can probably email them and ask.

Someone in the souther states could get them at a dealer and ship them to you. Super cheap to get shifter bushings. There is also a larger rubber bushing in the end of the stabilizer link where it bolts to the tranny housing. I had mine desintegrate a while back and it was like what you describe. Not sure if your BF has a similar configuration, but it's something to look at.

Nice thanks for the info! I might try to make some solid bushings, I've got those on my other car and they feel great.
