    Gas Tank Boiling..

So I go to put some transmission fluid in my car right after a quick 10 minute drive when I hear gargling. I noticed that its coming from the 3rd line to the gas tank, (the vent?). So I sat and watched it for a minute. Its actually is spitting a little bit of gas out of the line from time to time along with the gargling. I used to have this line capped off but one time when I went to take off the gas cap it shot off so I left it uncapped since then, assuming that there was too much pressure in the gas tank.

Remember I live in Georgia where its been 100+ degree days for a while now.

    What could it be?

the boiling point is 100-400 i dunno its either that or pressure build up in the lines coming back through..

Boiling point of gasolineThe boiling point of gasoline varies. At atmospheric pressure, it's between 100 and 400 degrees F. A primary cause of this variance is the various additives in the gasoline from different refiners designed to meet different octane requirements.

hell ethanols only 78.3 now you got me thinking to look...lol...

If i had to guess, i'd say the higher heat is probably causing the higher pressure in the tank as compared to the gas itself boiling

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Check out the 3 way valve on the tank. It is back by the filler neck. It is 115 here in AZ and I never hear that. Yes there is a pressure relief when I remove the gas cap but is as it should be.

Ok thanks I'll do that. Next time it does it I'll try to get a video of it.

I get that sound all the time, especially towards an empty tank after driving on some curvy/bumpy roads. When filling up, just open the cap slowly, and let the pressure hiss out.

Sometimes, I can hear a slow "gurgling" happening with a tank that's more full. This is on different cars; escorts, proteges, 323s, corollas, even the '92 chevy van tow vehicle, and my mom's 97 camry. not anything to worry about, IMO.

The vent could be a bit clogged with crap. Do you ever have trouble filling the car with fuel at full pump speed?

Almost always. I usually have to have the pump at half speed or it keeps stopping.

there should be a 3rd line that runs up to the charcoal canister, which is hooked to vacume. This is how pressure is neutralized otherwise your tank will swell up with pressure in the heat
