    Diff Query

Just a quick question, how different are the FWD front diffs and the 4WD ones? And would you be able to fit a 3.85:1 FWD diff into a 4WD gearbox?

I've never had an AWD trans apart but I've heard they are quite different and will not interchange

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Thanks, I was just wondering if the 4WD diff was just a 2WD drive diff with the center diff bolted onto the side of it. They look very similar in the manual, and it looks that way.

I've not had a fwd trans apart, so i dunno either...
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

Jay - if you've had an awd trans apart, if I posted a pic of a fwd diff could you tell a difference?

let me clarify, I was thinking the about just using the ring gear from the 3.85:1 diff and bolting all the AWD bits to it, I assume that they can be stripped down to just the ring gear and that way I can keep what I need and just change the ratio. I won't have to worry about spline count and all that.

I have rebuilt and had both apart... They wont interchange...

This is a GTX diff apart... The ring gear on the far right by my cutting tool is all one piece and non removable.. It has teeth both on the inside of it and outside since the planetary for the awd part rides on the inside of the ring gear...

This is a few different G series diffs including a B6T diff..
