My guess is that the van clocked me doin about 12 or 13 over and just rounded up. Its happened before, besides, how would you get a perfect rounded number for speeding? It just doesnt happen unless you try to keep it there.

As so far as gas stations, Thats another reason I hate oregon. Its Bull****.
Good Example. I was driving my 66' chevy with a rebuilt 350, and it doesnt run worth crap on anything other then premium. I told the guy runnin around, that I wanted premium. He knods off (Hes Mexican by the way, can barely speak a word of engrish :p )and begins to fill my tank with regular. I stopped him at a gallon, told him to cap it, that i was going elseware. Im tired of this BS. If you own a classic, or a real car that means somethin to you and dont want anyone esle junking it up cuz they cant prehend english or just dont care, then why cant you do it yourself? But no, you cant touch a pump w/o getting nailed a 500$ fine.I wont stand around while someone who doesnt have a clue, trys to do something i dont want, to my car.

I must admit, the local gas station here has been real nice about it, they understand me and my concerns, and let me pump my own, I couldnt ask for more.

Man, is this thread wanderin' all over or what.... LOL

There's only two states in the entire country that have laws saying that you can't pump your own gas. Guess which ones they are?

I know, it sucks. I hate not being able to do it myself when i go down to my folks place in Portland. I try not to fill up in Oregon and wait until I'm back in WA.

As for your rings, I thought you'd need to go in through the bottom to get the rods disconnected in order to pull the pistons. Were you planning on doing this on top of fixing your head gasket? I was wondering (because of how your head gasket doesn't sound to be too bad off) if you couldn't clean out the bottom end (due to a bad head gasket) by draining the oil, refilling with the cheapest crappy oil you can, run it for a minute, then drain again? You gonna tear it all apart?

If you do tear it all down, go the distance while it's apart. Do everything that you can afford. It'll save you time, money and headaches in the long run should everything hold up. Heck, port stuff while you're at it!

As for all the speeding tickets you guys are getting? SLOW DOWN! Dudes, have more fun accelerating quickly on the on-ramps and takin' the on/off ramps a little faster and you won't get as many tickets and still have fun driving! Just don't drive over the gore-point! That's a $300+ ticket up here.

Good luck with the engine tear down.

Well, when you replace a headgasket, you are better off replacing the rings as well. Doing just the headgasket can cuase more compression then the old rings can handle. And yes, it has to be done from the bottom.
I plan on doing what i can tho as for what i can afford. I plan on a complete engine overhual in the near future with aftermarket parts to handle the extra abuse. Larry, your welcome to join us Saturday if your around. Were going to try and knock this out within one day, since its the only good day, and the best time to get it done with extra help.

funny story.... Last time I was hanging with Larry and the 323 GT/X crew, I remember a few cars being cut off cause we tried to stay together on the on ramp....LOL priceless. I think I did 95mph to catch up with you crazies. thank God your 20 year old Japenese cars only have 160hp, otherwise my 5 year old Grand Prix couldn't keep up It was kinda fun hauling ass in a car that weighed 1000lbs more. Sometimes, there is no replacement for displacement.

          Can't wait for the weekend.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

160whp????? I think I have more like 360whp!!!! 1000 lbs heavier? I think you big *ss American car is about 10,000 lbs heavier!!!! LOL

All joking aside, yeah, that was fun.

Kyle, I wish I could make it, but it's too short of notice and I wouldn't be able to help much except for moral support since my tendonitis has gotten really bad in my forearms. In fact, I'm getting a cortisone shot in my right arm Friday.

Hope it works. After all, I have to finish my deck, fence and yard this year!!!

funny because i love having my gas pumped... especially in oregon, where the summers are hot and the winters are cold, i never have to leave my climate controlled vehicle. it has its downsides... waiting... but when i go to vancouver and gas is .10 more per gallon and i have to do all the work myself... its glorious having highschool dropouts to pump my cheaper gas for me.

as for the white van... I take glisan to work every night and they have been cracking down just past 122nd where it goes from 40-35... i just make sure to keep my CC at 5 over and ive never been photoed.

btw... with photo radar they dont need a sign, AND they the have to have proof you were going that fast, they cannot just make up a number...

my only ticket is by the worst cop in gresham, Durban, He is a biker cop that if he pulls up behind you, you ARE getting a ticket no ifs ands or buts.... he pulled me over with the person infront of me and he actually dropped my ticket to 19 over instead of the 23ish i know i was doing...

hhhmmm. According to the law, Police are required to have a sign in range of the trap. But anyway, its screwed either way. I dont mind it when ppl pump my gas, I just have a problem when they are careless or give me the wrong gas then what i asked for. Theres a reason why I ask for Premium.

i know how it goes... i had my turbo escort and required premium... and i know what its like to get the wrong fuel when you said PREMIUM.

i found what your talking about by signs, and its just a misunderstanding someone has used to bash the police about needing signs... here is what oregon law says about "signs"

                        (D) Signs indicating that speeds are enforced by photo radar are posted, so far as is practicable, on all major routes entering the jurisdiction.
so not a sign in front of the van but a sign letting people driving through the jurisdiction know that photo radar can and will be used at the discretion of the police.

btw here is where i got my information... http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/photo_or.html

Well, I was speaking to a Troutdale Police Officer about it, and thats what he told me. I still think thats a messed up system, all though Im all for cracking down on speeders, as it is a safety hazard, but doing it on a road that is supposedly considered a workzone, On a Sunday is just another way for the city to make money if you ask me, its cheap, and just wrong, but hey to each his own.

Im not at all picking at this, but what im saying is, where the van was, in its jurisdiction, there where no signs anywhere along the main road I was on to show that this technique was being used. Plus, Where the van was, BEHIND A WALL that was half the size of the van, it did not properly display the "Vehicle Speed" as posted in the link you added.

yeah... i know... im not picking on you or saying just get over it... im assuming there are amendments to this law as the one on Glisan didnt have a vehicle speed sign at all infact ive never seen a van with one...

you may want to consider consulting a lawyer about the ticket and see what they say about fighting it or not... as they will know the laws MUCH better and know if they can squeeze you out of the ticket.

Well, Today went quite well with the engine work, and having craig come out was awesome help. Couldnt have done it without you bro, Thanks again.
Coolest thing about it, was on a never opened/rebuilt B6T, the Cylinders where in almost perfect shape, nothing but smooth surfices. And since the head wasnt warped and there was no reason to reseat the valves, We just did the head gasket. The Rings can wait till the major rebuild. But I think that was a pretty good day, Doing a teardown, clean up, clean and resealed the oilpan, and installed everything in one day, and to be able to roadtest it this evening, Couldnt ask for more. Initial start up was kinda rocky since me, Like a moron, forgot to put my oil catch can back on, so it had a vacume leak, but other then that, She purred like a kitten. Shes now even quieter then she used to be, so what ever we did craig, made a world of difference. Thanks again!
