Well I have been driving my BF around town the past 3 days and had no problem with it. The B6T engine is strong and peppy but last night i noticed that the temp was going up 1 more than usual but not overheating. It was pretty cool last night and I was trying to get the temp to go down. I shut it off and let it sit for 5 mins and started it back up and the temp was normal. I drove it to work this morning and it was in the middle but I was trying to stay out of boost whereas last night I pressed it on the highway for the first time. I think that the previous owner used synthetic oil and like a 10-30 weight oil. Any suggestions of what to do??? I am going to switch to a 20-50 synthetic blend oil tomorrow and see if it runs better. Also the cooland is brand new but im thinking about changing the water pump and thermostat just to get it ready for florida's hot summer. Just give me some hints since this is my first 323 B6T. Thanks

If the water pump isnt leaking I wouldnt worry about it so much... you have to get into the timing belt when doing the water pump...
changing the thermostat is a good idea.. be sure you get the right one.. the b6t is different then a b6 and most after market parts stores around here list them as the same... :S the b6t one will have 2 valves in it rather then just 1 in the middle..
also I would check to make sure your fan is coming on.. you can do a quick test to make sure the fan work by turning the key on and unplugging the coolant sensor on the thermostat cap... the fan should come on..
and a simple thing to check is just to make sure the coolant level is topped up..

Properly maintained cooling systems ususally can take much more heat than the engine could ever feasibly provide as stock, but proper maintenance is the key. Why not do a coolant flush, find out the age of the water pump+ radiator, check all your water lines and proper coolant sensor/fan switches, externally mix the coolant and add something like Water Wetter? Put on a new radiator cap if the rubber seal is anything but perfectly pliable and soft, replace hoses that bulge at connections, and even get the radiator boiled out if you can find a shop to it.
Unless you're making another 60+hp over stock, OEM parts should be more than sufficient, but a lower temperature thermostat does help turbo engines stay cooler to prevent detonation.Last edited by djcommie; 06-05-2008, 05:02 PM.

I am making a lil more power than stock. The car is on about 18psi daily but I try to stay out of boost. It stays around 5 psi when im driving but when I get on it, its at 16-18 psi. It hasnt overheated on me yet but this is fla and I am putting the A/C back in this week. I just want to be prepared since its my daily now

Ok so I changed the thermostat, flushed out the radiator till I saw clear water, flushed out the head and waterpump, put new coolant, bled the system and let it sit at idle for 30 mins in the 90degree weather. No overheating at all the gauge stayed in the middle the whole time so I also wanted to change the sensor for the gauge, so I went and bought a replacement to find out that they gave me the wrong sensor. The one that I recieved is too small. It is a single wire sensor so I know that it is right but its not for the motor. I am going back tomorrow to exchange it. I did get to take it out on the highway and beat on it. The car feels peppy whereas before it was feeling a lil sluggish. I did discover that the radiator may have had some flowing issues but after I ran the hose through it seems to be fine. The car has been running great all day for me since I did the thermostat and coolant. I believe that the old thermostat was on its way out since it would only heat up when I was driving. Tomorrow I am going to see if the car needs anything else

yea i think anything above 16 is probably pointless with the stock b6t turbo. if your running the car hard and want to bring the temp down a little quicker roll the windows down and turn the heat on. now if you have the right cooling system you shouldn't have to do this but cars get older and more finickey and it works! as far as changeing the oil viscocity i wouldnt go as far as 20-50w but i guess it all depends on your climate

ThanksLast edited by SlingShot; 03-04-2009, 03:07 PM.
