It's buying a BPT and swapping the whole thing... There's a write up here somewhere i think...
1988 White GTX - #1 parts
1988 Black GTX - #2 reliably broken touge monstar (294,000 miles no rebuilds) - dead
1988 Blue GTX - #3 in progress (view here)
1988 Blue GTX - #4 BPT swapped weekend warrior.
1988 White GTX - #5 Rally car

2.2L swap would probably cost you the same in customization. Seriously if you aren't gonna go BPT stay B6T. you can use a non-turbo lower end.. it should be fine. unless you're pushing tons of boost.

2.2 swap to bf awd trans=nonexistent bellhousing adapter plate and almost immediate busted trans. Unless I'm seriously deluded there wasn't a 4wd option on that 2.2 block. Cuz if there was, then I've been REAL stoopid trying to get power outta the bpt..
though I reckon it woulnd't be the first time'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

i guess i need to get in there and see exactly what happened to my motor. if i do end up just replacing the bottom end i could use any 1.6 from say a miata or something? the bottom end on the cars outside of the gtx are weaker though arent they?
i would use another bpt or b6t or bpd if i could find one...
whats the best thing for me to do?

Well you can always roll the dice on a wrecker engine. I prefer to know what I'm getting. $1000 + $140 shipping with no core for a recon shortbock is very reasonable. If your block is good rebuilding your existing block with a rebuild kit for a few hundred dollars is also very preferable to buying a junk yard engine in my opinion.

Yes it will. It will be a bp instead of a b6 though.. so you'd have to use the EGT head and find the turbo parts for a BPT.

whats it matter that its a bp instead of a b6? i will have to use the escort head and im guessing my manifolds wont bolt up to that then and thats why you say i will have to find turbo parts? where will i find those? and that is including exhaust mani? turbo? intake mani? hmmm i wonder if its worth it for me to do. i got the escort today but i was hoping to use my manifolds.

none of your manifolds will fit.. Corksport has manifolds i think.. the turbo can be harder to find.
