All the new car saleman know me around here. So when I walked into the showroom and started towards the STi all I heard was no frikin way! We have a nice used WRX out on the lot. So they threw me the keys and told the rookie to go with me. All I can say is that rookie came back white as a ghost!

And by aftermarket in no way did I mean aftermarket AWD. cuz I already know that it would take a large sum of money to attempt.

I'm still a little skeptical about that Dynamic Stability Control and torque reduction system... The reviews I've read say that you're very aware that they working; kinda like they're holding your hand.

Hopefully you can turn them COMPLETELY off...

You know? They could have made it alot easier if they just made it a AWD car, none of the over complicated and over powered front wheel drive BS.

heh many over at NASIOC are saying that, but then it would've weighed easily as much as a WRX.

OOOHHHHH NOOOOO!!!!! Heaven for bid the car with a turbo engine that is .3 liters bigger then the WRX, has something near 25 more HP and more TQ, with a quik reflash of the ECU, I'm sure it would be up there with the mazda 6 which sits at 275 HP in stock format; yeah, I think I could deal with the car wieghing in at most 200lbs more, be more controlable in poor weather, BLA BLA BLA, WHat am I yammering on about, the car would just kick ass BIGG TIME. I've driven the WRX and I would waste time on the Mazdaspeed 3 unless its an AWD car, just think about entering a corner at 180 kick you back side out( without yanking the E-brake) with some simple modulation of the throttle and corrective aiming, a nice controled drift, and accelerate hard out at speeds above 200, HUmm yeah, and that was the first time I had eveer driven one, as well as a first for driving a turbo and awd car.I'm sure mazda could pull off something as good but better in others then the scuby.

WTF are you ranting about? Many over at NASIOC wanted it to be AWD as well and many said they would have bought one if it was AWD. Secondly the 06 is factory underated you really think it only gained 3HP from the 2.0 to the 2.5? It has been getting easily 20-30 more WHP. Wait, I just realized you said .3 liters larger, you didn't know they upped the displacement from 2.0->2.5 did you?

The converse to making a vehicle with AWD is it adds weight and cost more, as of now it weighs less than a GTI. I'm guessing Mazda wanted to keep weight down. 200lbs is a lot of weight and Mazda isn't going to think about people reflashing it to get more power to compensate for weight....that's silly. Many people bitch that the WRX weighs in at 3200+ and the MSP3 would be around there with AWD.

I know Mazda can do AWD and I'm sure they have their reasons for not doing it here, most likely money related. The MSP3 would cost you a bit more with AWD as well. LOL, hell I took a crapload of **** over in the MSP3 thread at NASIOC for defending Mazda's ability to make a Turbo AWD car.

Speeds of 180-200? I hope you are talking about KPH? My brother owns an 02 WRX and is looking at getting an 07, depending on how the new 08 Impreza pans out. You won't be kicking the tail out on a stock WRX, they like to push in stock form.

Would I like it to be AWD? Yes, and it should be.

                        2007 MAZDASPEED3

Based upon the Mazda3 Sport hatchback, the MAZDASPEED3 gives sports-minded consumers a double dose of Zoom-Zoom. With its compact, lightweight body and maximum power of 263 horsepower @ 5500 rpm and 280 lb.-ft. of torque at 3000 rpm, the MAZDASPEED3 is one of the highest performance sports compacts with front-wheel-drive on the road today.

MAZDASPEED3 dramatically reinforces the acclaimed dynamics of the original Mazda3 and delivers maximum driving pleasure through outstanding performance and a superior chassis. To create this new benchmark, Mazda looked to embody the following three requirements:

Driving Fun: Formidable performance from the MZR 2.3L DISI Turbo engine, along with sharply responsive handling achieved by capitalizing on the characteristics of the compact, lightweight body.
Ownership Delight: Exterior styling that gives an immediate impression of driving fun, and an interior with a quality feel that exceeds expectations.
Everyday, User Friendly Convenience: An exceptional balance of driving pleasure with everyday functionality and comfort.

As a result, the flagship of the Mazda3 range features a stylishly sophisticated look combined with performance levels that make it one of the fastest sports compacts with a FWD layout. MAZDASPEED3 offers truly exhilarating acceleration from a standing start, superior passing acceleration in the practical speed range and one of the highest top speeds in its class.

Mazda has made some nice numbers with this car... 12HP short of the Mazdaspeed6.

Guy over at NASIOC has driven it. He is a photographer so he got to spend a couple days with it. The only thing he really disliked was the cable shifter other than that he seemed impressed.

11 less hp than the speed6 from the same motor... I would suspect its the ECU...

wonder if the ECU's could be swapped to pickup that extra 11 hp? I already want one badly.

yeah it is most likely the ECU, but remember it is also a FWD platform with other systems to keep torque steer under control. Start playing with the power and car might not behave as you would want it. the aftermarket should be interesting to see what tuners do with it.

Take into account the additional weight and drivetrain loss of the AWD system, and I bet that the 6 has alot more power to be discovered in a FWD setup

Meh, I want one to do some simple I/E suspension mods for a daily driver
