    Hold Up!

    Jon is correct.

I have done this one myself. A LTS to my LX protege. I had my headliner re upped after I installed my LTS sun roof.

Some where here I posted how I did it. You will need to plan for plenty of time if you do the conversion. If only to have an after market done, that will take about 2 hours at a competent shop.

What you have not told us yet is if your car has the roof cut for that factory item.

If not I would recommend buying an after market style and have it professionally installed.

The finished project will give you the big thrill!

I had 1 installed in my little brothers 82 626 in Nashville, Tn. and that one came with a nice cover to store the glass in the trunk while cruising chicks!

Anyway have a great time however you decide!

I'm not sure if it's mentioned, but a difference is the coolant overflow reservoir in the engine bay. The EGT usilitzes a Ford one with a grommet for a "low level" light, while the Pro LX uses one with a simple dipstick. Great swap for EGT people so they dont have to deal with a leaky grommet.

No 100% sure if it's on all Pro LX's though. The 3 I found at the junkyard were all on LX's.
      91 EGT - Probe Clutch/ES poly mounts/manual belts/Probe shifter/rust free/MX3 console/MX3 kick guard/custom CAI/206k and counting...

      96 ELX - KL swap in progress... 6puck clutch/manual belts/MX3 seats/Fidanza flywheel/airbag delete...

escort wagon swapped to 1.8, now im throwing a mazda dash and gtx turbo kit on. whats the best way to go about making the gas gauge read properly if the pumps are not interchangable? also the speed sensor... is that only found on the lx? the junk yard out here only has single cams...

Mr tyler you made it over here good deal

use a mazda speedo gear & they hook up to the cluster the same way.
put the mazda guage in with the escort pump & see how it reads. might just work

Found out the multifunction switch in the 91 escort gt, is different than my 92 lts. Still works, just have to drill holes in the steering wheel.

91 gt steering column uses a nut and my 92 uses a bolt.

yes the early 91's were unique from other escorts in that they used mazda steering gear... idk if i mentioned this in the first post or not.

I have a feeling it won't, but does anybody know if an escort windshield will fit a protege? My protege one is completly ruined from my roll over and I have a few escort parts cars.

i would think it will only because i used the outer winshield panel(where the wiper blades sits) from a pro and put it on the tracer and it fits no prob.

As an old auto glass installed id say call a tech. Idk for sure if it does but you have to remember the rooflines of a 2 dr and 4 dr are different in some models. For example....a 4 dr civic windsheild is different than a 2dr in the same year

Ofcourse, neither the Ford nor the Mazda was the better edition of either one.
splines are diffenitly deferent and shaft is smaller then the gt
