You got it right---it all gets fit/welded up inside the car.

          Cheaper than this---

One of my best Porsche customers/shops decided on a Monday to buy/build a car for the following Friday's POC finale/race. He call's me and says "so I want you to enjoy Thanksgiving on Thursday because your gonna be building my cage Friday-Sunday so I can have it Monday morning to install the motor/trans/suspension/seats/harness etc...to race on Friday...UHGGG!!! I'm tired...

The rally cage with the "X" and the taco shell gussets, the two rear kickers, and two A-pillar bars bent to fit are about $650-$675 and end up just over $825 shipped to your door. The 4 point would be cheaper, and then the roadrace version with diagonal cheaper yet...I've got the rallycage hoop in stock!!!

Just taking a closer look at the main hoop and it appears to end on top of the gas tank/rear seat shelf like the roadrace bar you offer. To meet NASA Rally's requirements I think the legs would have to go all the way to the floor pan (like the porsche) in order to properly attach the sill bars between the main hoop and the forward legs of the cage. Would that be something you could incorporate/offer with out too much trouble?

We try not to put any of our cages on the floor panel, because it's weak (the material has been stretched into shape) and the cage can punch through in a bad crash with multiple hits. Your always trying to get it up above onto the sill like we did in the 996 if you look closer. I'm NASA's rally technical guy for the southwest region, and have seen the improvements they've made in they're safety rules over the last few years, and I'm impressed---we have a tendency to be a few years behind the FIA regs which I'm very familiar with...

Here's a couple of shots of the "kit" tacked into Blacky. We fit them tight up against the pillar/roof to give maximum headroom, but leave an 1/8" clearance (on the cars with no interior) so you don't have to deform the metal. Then we bring them imboard at the bottom so they attach to the material right on top of the longitudinal pivot which should provide some support under braking as well. If you look at the rally escort photo's Jorge you can see how the sill bar works with the cage design---I'll hunt through the thread and see if I can find a shot or two so get the big picture.

Found it-this is a shot of how the sill bar attach's to the legs---it's at the perfect height for a nice parallel shot.

Got any internships opening up at the shop?

I'm so used to seeing cages going to the floor that I didn't even think about the forward legs terminating as high up as the rocker. The fact that your roadrace bar didn't end down on the weak sheet metal floor is what really sold me on that design. I just figured the norm was the requirement as far as floor mounted rally cages go. Thanks for clearing that up.

                      Reviving this thread...

How much would the road race weld-in cage be? I'm ready to get the project car track ready since I finally got a daily.

The roadrace cage is about a hundred or so cheaper than the rally version---works out to about $700 or so with shipping/tax to your door. Pm me and we'll talk about some options for you.

Hmm.... If it fits the Escort, AND the 323... have you had an opportunity to test it in a protege?

I haven't read up on the rules yet, but I'll do that soon.
