I was planning on using a turbo rx-7 tranny actually. i just looked into the E153 swap. seems like you a well knowledgeable person about it. ill keep that in mind. I will most definitely be using a stronger diff. Which model does the All-trac come out of? Granted i will be going big with the possibility of maybe even using an ls1 but i first want to get the car moving, so small steps.

The AWD rear ends aren't really intended to be strong enough to be driving 100% of the vehicle. If you're going to be running a high power motor or even a V8 up front you're going to need something much stronger

There was a guy who made his Escort RWD and I think he kept shredding Miata transmissions, I think it was a ~400hp turbo BP. Anyone remember who that was?

TII tranny still needs an adapter and the R154 is stronger.

All-Trac Celica (ST185/195 in the US) or a Rav4/Camry rear diff would work.

Rocketman, not sure if you knew but the AWD and 1.6 Miata rear diffs are the same, the 1.6 diff isn't even strong enough for a lightly modded BP.

The guy with the RWD EGT is from Florida, I can't remember his name right now (Spen and Shawn know him though), I don't think that car's been running for a while though

Yeah, i came across that last night talking with a friend of mine. i did know i'd need an adapter plate still. so it would be best if i went with toyota parts ? lol anyways just got a line on a guy who might part with his 4wd protege. I'd prolly go with a ford explorer rear end, came across that while researching miatas and LS1's

dude, seriously, use the AWD Pro rear subframe and the Toyota diff. it all bolts together and you're not stuck with a crappy live axle

Toyota diff and awd pro subframe don't bolt up, you have to mod the crap outta the subframe. Compared to the rest of this build, it'll be easy.

'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

I think they already make someone like what you're looking for, dude...

I forget what they called it, though...

Maybe... MX.... 4? Nope... oh yeah! MX5!!! Miata!

And it has a suspension design that doesn't suck, too.

I mean seriously, with some of the questions you're asking, you do not have the knowledge or skill to pull this off. If you had the money to do it correctly, then you'd just be doing it instead of sweating a 20+ year old stock AWD Protege part.

Get your read on for awhile then re-evaluate what you want to do. You didn't go much further before creating this thread than eyeballing some designs across three models that won't be real helpful to you, and then saying "Yep, i want a RWD Escort. Sounds fun."

Prove us wrong and start a build thread and do some work. Step 1: Plasma cutter, and lots of it.

Atomic, I was under the impression the AWD rear subframe will not swap over without frame rail work. Where did you hear/see that it does?? If so I'm a happy man

Ive had this thought for a long while, just hadnt made up my mind what to do. plus ive be doing other things in life for the past 2 years since i finished the paint and hard work i've put into the car. i thought about using a miata rear sub. but the fact that i would have to widen it kinda turned me off just a bit. i mean i could go get one from the local j/y and get to work but, ive heard more about how weak they are than what i could do with it. another thing is, im not just gonna jump in an start cutting stuff. i have a plan to work off of and number one is the crucial rearend, then i after that i plan on cutting out the spare tire and getting that squared for the fuel cell. then ill need to finalize my choices of transmission and engine. i feel i should start out by turboing one of my bp engines, unless my chevy friends can prove that the ls1 route will be way easier(which i already know fitment will SUCCCCCCKKKKK!!!!!) i am not going to give up on this..... trust me, i can provide references lol. i already appreicate everyones input so far
