Not really looking for handouts, just helpful information that will allow me to do this right. I came on here and made this post to help get me pointed in the right direction. i am making plans (next weekend) on picking up a miata for $500 and just getting to work. But what are you using in that picture? i can tell its not the rear subframe out of a 4wd protege... atleast from what i can tell. at least telling me what that is out of would be more than helpful to get me started.

If you do not build the rear end right in a 2200 pound car you will be building a death trap so to speak. If you are serious contact Stp motor sports he has a 93 escort rear wheel drive and has no problems with the conversion. You will spend a lot and i mean a lot to do rwd correctly. Doing a miata trans with a 323 rear would be just as weak as the g series trans. You would need a 10-12 point cage chop out the rear end and tub it 4 link suspension and a shortened 8.8 ford rear end and run a t-5 trans then it would be pretty solid and with the cage the frame will hold up just fine. Also a bell housing would have to be made to put that trans on your motor. and custom shortened drive shaft. but it can be done i was just sitting under the rwd escort an hour ago and it looks sexy lol.
