I dont know how it on the proteges. I saw dash mounted toggle for cruise on one car, but do they have wheel mounted controls too?

Im going aftermarket wheel or another option, so it would be neat to save stuff for a clean install

On the Protege it's a dash button for turning the system on and off, with wheel mounted buttons to set it.

I have a DX, the stripped down racing version of the Protégé. None of the extra weight of electric door locks, and cruise control to slow things down. I never missed cruise control and the way I see it is that a real man doesn't need it, no matter how long the trip.

        Happy Motoring!

reviving old thread, instead of making a new one.

Gosh, the 'Search' function REALLY does work!

So, while working on taking the motor out, I really don't give a crap about A/C. Infact, it's just a bunch of freaking clutter. Less things to go wrong the better as well as more room. Looking to yank that tomorrow. Otherwise, Robs method will be the start.

Cruise, well yeah. I'd keep it, if it worked. I might sit down and try to diagnose it, but still really don't care so much for it.

If anyone has tips on yanking A/C, please speak up.

pulling the A/C is pretty straightforward. make sure the lines and **** are empty, use those weird-ass tools to disconnect the hard lines, pull the lines/compressor/condenser/whatever and throw it in the garbage.

IIRC the cruise system is pretty simple, though I'm not sure how to diagnose it offhand.

Cruise is nice if you are on the highway all the time but slow rural or city driving it's useless. If you pull it, just cap off the vacuum lines, unbolt the unit and disconnect the cable going to the foot pedal, which is actually the hardest part.

Oh and personally I would keep the A/C at least for helping keep Windows defogged in the wet/winter weather, even though when I lived in WA I never ever used the A/C in the summer either and almost removed it, good thing I never did since I ended up moving to Phoenix haha.
