Door hinge sag and an awful job...

Hey everyone. Went through a horrible experience tonight with the EGT, I must admit it was probably one of the harder jobs I've done with a vehicle. Who has changed pins and bushing on your doors and what did you do for best result. I'm usually a lone man when it comes to working on the car since the old lady hates the thing and usually don't have an extra set of hands to help. I went to change out my pins and bushings tonight because my door sags a bit and have to lift up slightly to close the door and I went through hell putting the door back on just because it has to be level and damn near perfect to line it all back up. Changing the pins and bushings were easy but seized in the hinges pretty good. That being said I managed to bend my hinge a bit when I was tapping out one of the pins and straightened it back out after as best as I could but unfortunately it's kinked enough that I messed it for good. So I finally got the door back on with a ton of struggle and after a few cuts and nics later I had it all back together, and my worst fear set in once I went to close the door, the hinge I tried to straighten out perfect didn't go so well and now every time I open or close the door it's catching on the fender. Nightmare.

Has anyone ever done this job before and what were your tactics to get it done right or what was your approach? I will have to redo the job since the hinge is messed for good and I am wondering if there is any solutions to doing it as easy as possible by yourself? As well, now that this happened, does anyone know where I can find a new hinge for driver door bottom hinge (2 door) or should I just start scrounging through a wrecker yard? Was hoping there might be somewhere that sells sets new.

Thanks for any input you guys can share

I'd just hit up a yard for the hinges lol I swapped the complete assembly over on my old bg protege and bg escort that way. I use 2 jacks, one at the front of the door and one at the back if it's a solo job. I usually don't let the door move more than a few mm when I do the job as well. I've never had the door actually off the car if that makes sense lol

Yup makes sense buddy. Hopefully I can find a 2 door somewhere around here with good hinges. I have a couple EGT part cars to pick up this spring at least

Are the 2 and 4 door different ? if so I bet the 323 would be the same as your escort. I wasn't aware they were tho lol

I think they are, while I was pissing around with my door tonight I tried a 4 door hinge that I had kicking around and the bolt holes on the door would line up but the angle of the whole piece that bolts to the body itself was crooked as hell. Different design I guess

Roger. I'd see if a 323 would work then. They have a lot in common, a and b pillars are the same. just like the 4 door escort and protege.
