Still not sure where the wires go/connect for the hot temp. Just trying to connect the red/black wires from my new fans so they operate as normal temp fans.

I just don't want it to overheat. That's what I mean. No idea how to hook up my fans.

And I don't remember what wires are in it. I'm thinking I took the wires from the protege I got the motor from? Can't remember stupid brain injury.

                  okay no worries

the stock fan plug should be on the body harness running off the frame rail / rad support area, it's maybe an inch wide? it'll have three wires- black, yellow, and light green/yellow. black is ground (duh), yellow is from the low speed relay, light green/yellow is from the high speed relay. so assuming your fans are two-wire plugs (i.e. not pwm controlled) connect the ground on both to the ground from the body harness and then run one relay wire to each positive wire on the new fans.

an issue you're going to run into is that the 1.9 used a real ect sensor for the gauge and the 1.8 just had a dummy switch and the sensors are not interchangeable; i don't think you can just swap gauges (assuming you have the tach cluster in your car), i think you have to use the whole 1.8 cluster. it should be in my wagon build thread, i figured it out and had a working temp gauge.

we also had to open up the body harness to make something work because the 1.9 and 1.8 stuff was different but i'll be damned if i can remember what at this point, i want to say it was cooling / fan related though because on one of the test drives the fan didn't come on and a bunch of **** melted.

Said forget the hks and swapped back to my greddy bov for now. Started it up for a lil bit. No water in the radiator or fans hooked up so just idled for a few before turning it back off. Speaking of fans... How do I hook them up? Yes it's a ford escort wagon. But I swapped in a BP and trans from some Mazda. My temp gauge is on H on or off. No idea. Just trying to get things situated before I go for my license again.

read my last post for how to hook the fans up

for the temp gauge- do you have a gauge cluster with a tach? swap in the egt cluster, and use an egt temp sensor. if not, you're probably not getting it working, run an external gauge.

I thought you had to swap the single wire sensor (right under the distributor) in the head to get temp readings from Mazda to Ford.
