I already went thru the entire album and resized them all, but only a few ACTUALLY resized...I'll go thru and do it again.

A picture of the bolt pattern for the ring gear on the way as well, it looks like it's 1.9"x8 -or- 48mmx8, and from the center of one bolt to the center of one 180* apart, it is 5"

I'm also looking for advice on how to pull the gearsets, this isn't the same as the G series transmission write up I was looking at and I don't want to start pulling on stuff and break it.

That is not a g series transmission. None of the parts are in the same locations, and g series trannies have 10 bolt(rivet) ring gears. I can't exactly remember what it looks like inside an e series box, and I've never had an F series apart, but I've had plenty of different g series trannies apart. ( currently have 2 cable g5m-r trannies apart at the house).

alright, well that sucks.. I still need to determine what this transmission is so I will know if I can do anything with it or not. They used them on 1.5 and 1.6L engines up until 06 I think, then switched to the hIunDEY beta motors and transmissions.

If there's any way I can get an after market differential to work, I need to, otherwise I need to start looking for a new transmission to use.

Would it be possible to get some measurements off one of your spare ring gears and differentials for me? (and future concerned citizens)

I just looked at car-part.com, I can get a 1991 capri b6t 5 speed from the same place I got my motor, if it's possible I'd like to find an aftermarket lsd for this, but if it won't work it won't work. What would you suggest?

Yeah, I can do that. There are 3 LSD options that I know of. Option 1: block style LSD mod offered by a couple of companies, just look on eBay for escort gt LSD, they will come up for around 150-200 bucks. 2: Mazdaspeed protege LSD (viscous) Mazda part#gsy1-27-190, about 450-500 bucks. 3: mfactory helical style diff, 750-850 bucks.

Those three options, price really is a matter of "you get what you pay for". If you are planning on building a street and mild track car then option 1 or 2 will be okay. If your shooting for over 200hp and plan on hard launches with drag radials then do yourself a favor and buy the m factory, and while your at it buy a tranny from a 2003 protege (not 01/02 that will fit an 03, it must be an 03) and mate out to the Capri (xr2 only) Bell housing requires machine work). This gives you the ultimate g15m-r box to work with. From there you can do straight cut dog gears and plate mod for another 5 grand. Lol

HAHA.. yea right dude I wish I had 5 grand to dump in a transmission... nahhh, I was thinking about a grand for the whole thing bolted in the car!

Mfactory is an option IF I can get one to fit in this tranny, or even find a whatever and ... bottom line is I need to have a transmission that will hold 200-230 HP and not break on me, I doubt I'll be doing much hard launching aside from hitting up a drag strip every couple weeks.

Depending on what I end up doing with this transmission I'm either gonna shoot for the Mfactory or Mazdaspeed LSD, I've heard good and bad things about phantom grips, I think it's probably better if I just avoid them.

Depending on how you drive it, that Capri xr2 box will hold 230hp. The Mazdaspeed lsd will fit, but you'll need to swap ring gears. I'd recommend also upgrading to the newer style syncros and shift forks. Protege 2.0 trannies came with the updates after mid year 2002, so if you can get your hands on one of those trannies, you can use the Capri bell housing on it. I wouldn't try put 230 hp through that Rio box.

I haven't actually bought the capri transmissiom, and I don't look toward to swapping gears.or gearsets. This is the first transmission I've ever had apart and I don't want to mess with things if I don't have to, is there a transmission I can buy, swap in an aftermarket differential as a bolt in swap, and stick it in the car? I really just want to keep it as simple as possible.

Yeah, the Capri xr2 tranny. Both the m factory and Mazdaspeed diffs fit, but you have to swap the ring gear into both of those( you have to swap the ring gear on to most aftermarket diffs for most transmissions). To my knowledge nobody makes a diff that bolts into the e or f series boxes. You'll want the larger G series clutch anyway.

I don't think there is a simple bolt in tranny for the aspire that you can buy an aftermarket or factory LSD for. These transmissions never came in cars that would be considered profitable to design such a part for. Luckily for us, the aspire and festiva are both much lighter and easier on the g series than the cars that came with these trannies, we can put more hp down for a longer period without the typical 3rd gear failure, but shifting them hard in any car tends to break them. (I have the parts to prove that, and both my daily driver cars are b6t and g series). Good luck!

I went and picked up a G series transmission today from a 91 xr2. I'm going to order the mfactory diff as soon as ppal lifts my spending limit, seems like this is the 3rd time they've needed me to do this.....anyway, I HOPE this is going to be about all I need, after the LSD I'm at and over my budget for the transmission.

I got the whole passenger side axel from hub to diff with it, but I don't know if ill use it or sell it.

We'll see what happens when I get the transmission mounted, I don't know if the hub spline count is right, and I don't know if the length is going to be right either. Just depends on how much more of a headache it is.

Ordered a 28 spline mfactory differential and some decals earlier for the g series tranny, I don't know how fast the shipping will be but the sooner the better!
