Well im going to be doing my swap sometime soon. hopefully during winter break in late December or early January. Now i get the basics of it, disconnect all wires, unbolt mounts, disconnect p/s and a/c lines(i think ill get rid of the a/c lines and compressor but keep the blower motor), disconnect axles, then yank out. but its the little things that i wont know. ive never done a swap or pulled an engine before. im going to be getting the BP from a ford escort, anything special i need to make it work? im also going to be getting the harness and auto bp ecu if it will work(will it?) im looking for as little downtime as possible because this is my DD. i have a 2 car garage with mechanics tools. no air yet though(might get some soon tho) and i dont have an engine hoist. i also dont have specialty tools if any are needed. who ever wants to come help post here and ill let you know the details when it progresses.

you will need to modify or replace the fuel system on the ford BP to work with your mazda stuff, if your keeping the auto trans the auto BP stuff with work you will need a 4 wire TPS (from an auto) also.
I have an engine hoist you can borrow, and i may be able to come up and help, kinda depends on work.
grab a chilton manual for the protege, sit outside with your hood open and an icey beverage and read the engine removal section while looking at all the stuff in your car and make notes in the book about things you see that you dont know, or that you may do differently.
buy atleast 1 battery powered shop light, the swap probably with take you 2 days being its your first time, allow for 3 days so you have room and soak everything you have never removbed from the car in PB rust blaster the day before.
you also need a BP VAF and should have the BP intake piping, but its not required."Discontent is the first necessity of progress."

the battery powered ones are 100x better when its 2am and you cant figure out why it wont start, by that point the cord will drive you nuts.
and you can hang it in the engine bay in weirder/tighter angles that a corded one, giving you light exactly were you want it.
i have like a drawer full of random gaskets and BP bits if you wanna come dig thru them after you get the BP and see if there is anything you can use."Discontent is the first necessity of progress."

the harness and all that , that i have should plug in under the dash the same, i think its only different on the lx escorts. only thing i would do is swap the rubber grommet on the firewall to yours from that harness, i know one of thems is bigger....92 protege lx-
