i just realized how wrong the title is. its alot more then a few dollars difference. 5 qt's of cheapy oil can be less then $10 bux. compared to royal purple which will run you close to $50 for that amount. ouch!

I think the OP was referring to the minimal price difference in name vs. store brand oils of the same type. It seems that everyone else has followed that assumption as well. Hopefully he knows that synthetic is significantly more expensive than any conventional oil.

Racerboy- you should keep it a bit lower in the rpm range. around 5-6k makes good power

Some good points are being made here. For a stock/everyday driven engine, as long as you buy the correct viscosity, oil is pretty much oil. Now there are exceptions such as Nissan's 3.5 and 3.7L. These engines pretty much rely on the Nissan blend of oil in order for the valve train to operate properly.
For my stock BP in my LX... I could go to Wal-Mart, buy just about anything off the shelf, run it, and achieve much the same results as a $15 quart of Royal Purple. A lot of engine owners feel much better about themselves when they run expensive oil, but the engine doesn't necessarily know the difference. If you filled their quart of Royal Purple with a Wal-Mart's Super Tech , I would bet money that they would never notice any difference and would go on thinking that the $15/quart stuff is the reason for their great engine.
            Just my 2 cents.
If you want to know if an oil is working well in your engine, send us a sample and for $22.50 we will give you a very good idea of how your engine/oil combination is working for the type of mileage you are putting on your specific engine.

I find that my bp pulls more in higher revs. It's just starting to make it's power at 5K, and pulls hard up to it's rev limiter.

i work at a shop , so i see lots of oil, i can usually tell if its ours, syn, or something cheap.... the cheap stuff tends to hold a bit of moisture and usually redish tint, from being recyled oil or blended some how, the syn usually stays clean/er... and ours, i can usually tell, just cause it is always black as hell when it comes out.... ive been using synthetic for the last 2 oil changes and find i burn less, and use less, so im sticking to it... gotta love man made higher boil resistant oil...lol...
