        the car is so much better for what I'm building it for than anything Mazda makes* but goddamn do I hate these motors.

        if I blow up this one I'm selling all the KA **** and shoving the BPD in there

        *FC maybe excluded but I haven't drifted one yet and I'm not interested in wobbly Doritos

            why would I use a dumb FE3 when I have a perfectly good BPD lying around?

              Because FE3 > BPD.

              And it would be an easier swap from a "let's get this bitch attached to a RWD transmission worth a damn."

              Though i suppose you could find a TII adapter plate for the BPD. You'll have to dick with manifolds either way.

              FE3 is the God of old mazda 4 bangers. I'll demonstrate over the next 12 months. Stay tuned. :D

                convincing me to use anything other than a motor that has already proven its invulnerability is going to be an exercise in futility, haha

                also, IIRC Pat is making like 340 wheel on a stock Miata trans and the only thing he's broken is a shift lever?

                  On a 6spd, sure.

                  I was on the verge of breaking my 5spd with my 2554 car.

                  Is pat the FC-with-a-1.6-miata-motor guy?

                      motor is back together (getting the timing chains aligned properly was way easier than I expected), turbo and manifold are on, **** is ready to rock.

                      the plan is to take the car and motor over to a friend's shop tomorrow night and basically wrench on it until we fall asleep. in theory it should be pretty close to running again by Sunday.

                        pulled an all-nighter to yank the old motor and throw in the new one. got minor bull**** to sort out, but it runs again.

                                thanks, it's the one thing the car has going for it. kinda want to do kouki skirts/Type-X rear with an Origin roof wing eventually- keeping it simple, 00-01 style.
