It's a cool clear night in northern NJ and I have a perfect view from my property. It's 9:30 pm EDST and a small part of the moon is already covered. If you get a chance, take a look. The next total eclipse is not due until 2007.

At ~ 10:25 pm EDST, totality occured. At that point, with the moon totally in shadow, the disc of the moon appeared to take on an orange glow. We were able to observe the moon until ~ 10:35 pm when clouds moved in from the west and almost totally obscured Earth's satellite. I guess our viewing is over for now but it was quite beautiful and fascinating while it lasted. For those of you who have clear skies and intend to stay up late, here is what to expect according to the posted schedule for the eastern time zone:
Total eclipse ends at 11:45 pm
75% coverage occurs at 12:02 am
Moon leaves umbra (Earth's full shadow) at 12:54 am
Shadow fades away at 1:14 am
Moon leaves penumbra (Earth's outer shadow) at 2:02 am

I took a handheld shot last night, while at Englishtown. However it was a bitch trying to hold the damn camera still with the spot meter on the moon and what not..

sure enough, the skies didn't clear up in my area until 3 in the morning, way after any noticeable affect of a lunar eclispe could have shown. but oh well
