    towing on a BP g series 323 hatch

    How would you guys fair with the idea of a 323 with a bp, 5spd wearing the g series do for pulling 6 x 10 Victory Single Axle Trailer;

    this may not be the specific one, but the idea

    plan to throw down an additional tranny cool aswell.

    empty weight there are 1100lbs.. and somewhere i swear i read not to exceed 1700lbs for pulling behind the car. if this is the matter... i'm totally game, even with my future plans...

    please share your opinion:

    it will pull it but its not easy on the car at all. especially the fact that its a wall right behind the car. slow speeds will be ok but anywhere near highway speed you will be using lots of gas pedal to maintain a constant speed. a 60mph aero plays a big game in it.

      an ambitious feat.
      When you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

        The main problem you'll be facing is the short wheelbase of the 323. Long trailer and short wheelbase tow vehicles do not play well together. Especially when the tow vehicle isn't very heavy.

          If this is gonna be a one time thing, rent a truck. You will save yourself a lot of headache. What do you plan on towing in a trailer that big that is only 600lbs?

            dude i pull a 5x10 haulmark trailer with my subaru and while it does work it sucks. the trailers roof sticks up to high and catches too much wind, you can definitly notice sudden gusts as it pulls the car around. the subaru also has 1000lbs over the 323 and is a 2.5 over a 1.8

              i plan to convert a cargo trailer to a stealth camper kinda thing. going to far away races.. i'm getting warn out with tents and cold weather.. and budget for hotels doesn't go far anymore... it will also accomodate a very small 'service rig' kinda thing for the track

                  if i remember right... my owners manual says 'this car is not meant to tow anything'

                  even if it was able to..i still wouldnt. its a 2300 lb car... just my 2 pennies tho.

                    I think you'll find stopping a bigger problem that getting going.

                        That is what I was getting at. There are more physics involved than I feel like going through on here, but towing an 800lb trailer is no different than putting four 200lb people in the car and driving around as far as the load on the drivetrain is concerned (assuming proper tongue weight). The problem is slowing that load down in a hurry when it isn't contained between the four wheels of the car. Polar moments of inertia can be a bitch sometimes.

                          I was just agreeing. You said it better than I could have.
                          My Dad almost got run over by a log truck pulling his boat with a Toyota Tacoma. The pickup had a canopy but that 16 foot fiberglass boat turned his rig sideways driving down the middle of the road. He was probably coming out of a corner or some such. Scared him so bad he went and bought a 4x4 right after.
