the d16 with the sohc vtec can run with the protege's 1st and 2nd gen with the 1.8L .. due to the vtec helping the civic , it gets enough grunt to keep up.
The 1.5 2nd gen .. can run with the non-vtec sohc motors ... being as they are both slugs and can run in the same 1/4 times
