Today I helped Charles put his car back together, and I took some pics plus a couple of videos. It was an interesting day. Especially towards the end -- when I got to drive the car.
I got pulled over right after my first upshift from 1st to 2nd.
It was past midnight and it turns out there was a cop around the corner when I took off from a light. I revved the engine up to ~7000rpm in 1st gear then missed the 2nd gear upshift because of bad synchros (also because that's the first time I've ever driven Charles' car and he failed to warn me of the difficult 1st to 2nd shift!). I let the clutch go thinking I was already in 2nd but I was actually in neutral, so the engine hit the rev limiter a couple of times. Realizing my mistake I slowly engaged 2nd and continued cruising down the street at about 30-40mph. Less than a minute later we got pulled over. The cop asked for my driver's license, asked us about the turbo and whether we planned on racing the car at the track. We answered honestly thinking there's no way to avoid a ticket. The cop was smart too, right away he knew we had a turbo - that was his first question. Amazingly after all he let us go without any tickets or warnings! What a relief...
Anywayz. Here are a couple of pics;
