    Is that image in color?
    It almost looks desaturated.
You should throw it in photoshop, then add some saturation, do your curves, then add some contrast, and brighten it up a little after adding contrast. Then after, or before all this you can do your shadow highlights....

That should give it some more pop.

It is not the camera that takes good pictures, but rather the photographer. IMO, a good camera is one that is "transparent". Meaning that it should not alter the image in any way (unless you want it to). Beyond that it's up to the photographer to take pictures people would love to look at.
Actually it depends, because the camera Lens has a big play also. The better the lens, the better the optics, then it's up the the photographer to compose the image, decide what he/she wants in, or out of focus, and what time of the day is right to take the picture.

So it can be a pretty even balance.
I just got a 28-75 Tamron f2.8 lens, that is just oh my gosh sharp.. You could frigin cut yourself on that lens.

This is my Macro Lens... I love shooting Candies..

this is my Tamron 28-75 Macro..

Anyone even thinking about getting into DSLR's, and not wanting to spend to much cash, should look into the Canon 300D Rebel.. You can get them for like 450-550 now. That may just be the body alone, or it may include a 18-55 lens.
