Is the idle surge from the car not having any coolant in the motor yet? Has the car fully warmed up so the thermostat can open and fill the engine with coolant? Cant quite remember if our cars do it too but honda's will surge like a mofo if there is no coolant in the motor.

does the TPS get adjusted on the FE3? I know on my Corolla, if it's not set right, idle will surge like that.

Does the FE3 have a IAC on it? Or a vacuum leak at the TB?

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

theres no wax valve. only the idle control bit on the bottom of the TB.
its a GTR ecu & the TPS wasn't changed from the previous BPT setup. I kinda thought about that. i don't quite have the patience to set the TPS tho.

Meantime. i desperately need a hall type BP distributor (or) at least the guts from it. I think that might be a good deal of my misfire problem seeing as its FE3 guts & the ecu is seeing a slightly different signal/expecting different.
Just a thought @ this point.

take vids! and the disti theory is probably the most reasonable explanation. how much different of a signal does it put out tho?

                              Why not an optical?

BTW Ryan, if I recall, you mentioned that I would need to replace the coolant temp sending unit ...is that correct? that would be the one under the disty that goes to the cluster gauge, right?

Regarding the disty, if I recall correctly, if there are 2 notches on top of the housing it's a Hall effect, and if there is only one it's an optical...

hall effect has a capitol B after the numbers on the under side of the disty.
I picked one up tonight from 93_EGT- a big thanks goes out to alex for saving my ass on this one.

Phil, my optical was utterly destroyed in storage/shipping/ETC. when i got it the only salvagable piece was the disc itself. I wish i could get another optical FE3 disty. that'd make my day.....

the coolant sensor(if your running BP management) & temp gauge sensor need to be swapped from a BP. simple swap that takes mere minutes.

Anyhow. back to try swapping out the guts tomorrow. & see what changes it makes
