A little update on my build

Well, hopefully you guys remember my last build thread. I was supposed to go to the dyno to go for the 400whp goal but unfortunately i had some setbacks. Basically one day i was redoing my oil pan gasket, and i noticed cyl1 end cap had excessive play. Since the engine was put together rather quickly i knew this was gonna be a problem that i had to deal with before it dealt with me. Unfortunately it beat me to the puch and hence..........

Ok, so basically i called it, rod bearing 1 spun and the tear down began. I wasnt gonna get pissed because it was my fault since i half assed it so i just wanted to make sure this time around i would come back bigger and better. I took the engine to the machine shop and crossed my fingers that the crank wasnt junk, and of course....it was junk along with the rod. So i grabbed one the many spare rods i have, had it cryo'd and sent it to the machine shop along with a new crank that took me 3 weeks to source. I had everything sized, block hot tanked, crank micropolished, head resurfaced to make sure everything was back to stock reliability.

ss downpipe, aluminum intercooler piping, slim fans, etc.

Of course while the car is down, time for some upgrades! so i started ordering parts.

I ordered new gauges, short shifter, skyline gtr FMIC, custom racing radiator, downpipe & exhaust housing got ceramic coated, new full race manifold and ditched the ss autochrome mani. I also got a new red top tial 38mm wastegate with a 1bar spring along with total seal piston rings, clevite bearings, melling oil pump and all the other basic rebuild stuff.....and so the rebuild begins.

Soon enough all my parts start coming in and assembly starts.

Glad you got it back together! When is the start date?

I am also really surprised you insist on using stock pistons and rods, especially when all your other parts are top end.

I got the most important piece of my setup, my new full race manifold in and of course i have fitment issues. I intended on getting a shorty style manifold since they have better low end tq, but unforunately our engine are so small that it was impractical to have the turbo by the oil pan. Since it was a one off piece made for my setup i sent it back and am having a ramhorn mani made which should be here anyday now. Unfortunately i didnt get many pics of putting everything back together since i was working majority by myself and on a time limit, since my car needs to be done in time for mazdapalooza (www.mazdapalooza.com) on Jan 20 since my company will be a big sponsor. Running close to the deadline and all im waiting on is my manifold to get this thing on the dyno. And YES I WILL be at the dyno since i have already paid for 3 hours of tuning, so no playing around this time. Im going on 1bar and then i'll go back on 20lbs. Here are the rest of the pics.

Here you can get a good look at the mani, and the ceramic coated downpipe and turbine housing. See how low it sits, definitely wouldnt work.

Heres pics of new intercooler piping route and also can see the new radiator sorta.

Looking good so far. I think I would have changed the pistons and rods at the same time though. I do like your new piping route this time though, I might have to use it for mine, lol.

howe racing made it custom for me, they should still have the dimensions. Look them up on google since i dont have the contact info for them on hand and ask them. It cost me 300 bucks plus tax, keep in mind NO ONE makes performance mx-3 radiators since the dimensions are so weird.

Will post an update w/ pics soon. Got car running yesterday, hopefully on the dyno this week for break in. Peace

How are the Total Seal rings working out? Every story I've read from Miata guys involving Total Seal rings ends in disaster.

i didnt get gapless rings (no way), Total seal makes a line of high performance rings, and man are they bad ass. That is what i am currently running. So far so good, eventhough i havent really driven the car yet, just lettin it sit till i get to the dyno, dont want to risk anything.
