    5 Lug swap work Log

Let me start with, I'm still gathering the last few parts I need to do this.

    Edited Inventory as of 4/13/13

Ksport RR Coilovers (trading BG lower mounts for Probe pieces)
All four Knuckles from my 89 Probe GT
Two 1st gen MX6 N/A front wheel hubs
20 ARP Extended Wheel Studs (need to sell the ones I tested, and purchase part number 100-7708)
New Front and Rear Wheel bearings (89PGT)
New front and Rear Rotors (89PGT)
New Front and Rear Calipers with brackets (89PGT)
New Front and Rear Pads (89PGT)
****sport Braided Stainless Brake Lines (all 4)
    New 86-88 RX7 Lower Balljoints
New MX3 Outer Tie rod ends
89 Probe GT Parking Brake cables
    MX3 TTL's
MX3 Rear Subframe and tiebar (temporary, will be replaced with Pierce tiebar shortly)
    MX3 Rear Swaybar
Zx2 trailing arms (and new ES poly bushings)
six 16" 1996 Mustang/Cobra wheels with 4 Falken 205/45R16's (2 are bridgestone tires same size)
four 15" 1996 Mazda 626 wheels with 195/55R15 Hankook Snow tires

    Needed parts/work as follows:
Ferdi's Tie rod Flip kit bushings
    ARP PN 100-7708 x4 packages
    Some prep work
    Some paint work
    Some powdercoating
    Some freetime

Later when swapping in the KL engine, I will be adding:
    MX3 LCA's fitted with Ryan's sphericals
    MX3 GS De-Powered steering rack
    MX3 Steering column
New MX3 inner tie rod ends
Some bonkers JDM mazda steering wheel (probably FD or NB or something)
Pierce Rear TTL's and some sort of strut mounted Rear sway bar

And if there is enough clearance to permit their purchase, I have picked a set of 16x8 +25 wheels that I like for my non-commute functions. To be fitted with some Sticky street rubber I.E. Dunlop ZII's or the like.

The plan is to start prepping my spare complete MX3 rear subframe and TTL's this week, basically build a complete 5 Lug bolt on rear subframe off the car, and once I get rear wheel bearings and studs for the new rotors; finish it and set it aside.

Then I will setup the front on the car when I finish gathering those parts, and the same day I will swap in the complete rear setup as well. It might be a week, and it could be a month before I finish, but I'm getting close.

personally..... im not fond on the 1st gen mx6 front spindles..... I encountered MASSIVE positive induced camber. which required mx3 LCA's and RX7 balljoints. But i also used BJ front struts.....

I like the wheels & i am extremely curious to take a comparative look of the MX6 rear spindles VS BG ones. if you have the time to take some pictures PLEASE let me know!

The only thing I'm not fond of with the 1G MX6/626 stuff is the rear bearing setup and how it's pressed into the rotor backing...at least that's how I remember my friends 89 Probe with 4 wheel disks.

They are pressed into the rotor in this design. Not a big deal, one piece rotor/hub instead of two... I have brand new Brembo blanks, so I'm not worried about it. It's also the reason I want extended studs, since I need front hubs, and the rears are new in box, I'll have the perfect opportunity for new bearings, and studs to all get pressed in at the same time, may as well upgrade the studs instead of re-using my old ones.

Matt, I'll trade, but it'll be a few weeks before I get mine.

Ryan, I'll definitely take side by side photos of everything for this thread. I want to make this a better resource for those interested in doing the swap this way.

I like the probe brakes, being larger than stock BG stuff should help in my application... Plus I have literally a brand new brake package for this application, from when I bought my probe, that I want to put to use. As for camber, I have mx3 LCA's with your sphericals, and I need ball joints, so I'll just grab some rx7 ones. Between that, and the ksports, I'll be fine if I have fender clearance. This package will be like 45-50mm wider per side than stock... 12-15mm on the lca's (however much they truly are), 12-15mm on the ball joints (again, unsure of exact measurements), and 20mm for the wheel/tire package(know that for a fact). I think I'll be Rollin the hell out of the fenders, lol.

that's fine, I'll have to find some temporary suspension for the wagon to sit on anyway.

You will have to think about tie rod length and axle length when you add that much extra track width.

It would be 48-60mm per side BTW

At the fender it will only be a max of 50mm because of the slightly stretched tires. Outside edge of the rim will be 58-64mm further out per side. I found a very detailed offset calculator with tire size included. Will attach pics and a link later. These calcs are vs my 7spoke GT wheels, not LX bits, as I'm unsure of Lx offset.

Axles will be fine, I'm a bit worried about tie rods, but if it becomes an issue, I'll figure something out. I have an idea for a quickened ratio adapter that would move the tie rods closer to stock length, and shorten the lever arm of the spindle slightly, increasing maximum steering angle and effectively quickening steering ratio... Needs a lot more research and math, but a possibility nonetheless.

Oh,I was thinking of just the control arm/ball joint and not about the wheels/offset.

Your talking drifting type stuff for the tie rods then?
