Here is the link to my previous build thread before the car went under the knife http://www.wihandyman.com/forum/show...ot!&highlight=

To make a long story short in December 2012 my precision 6062 turbo (journal bearing) failed on me, and precision turbo's warranty wasn't to my satisfaction. I then decided to upgrade to a ball bearing gt3076r, i was on a street tune at the time. Unfortunately the new ball bearing turbo spooled so much faster even while casual driving, baby shifting, it built enough boost to hit a lean spot on the MS map and crack piston 4, it was a stock rebuilt BP. It sucked because i was awaiting to be dyno tuned, but it was my only car at the time.

Anyways, after that i literally lost alot of my motivation to work on ALL cars and just put it on the backburner for 2 years. I've done some things here and there to the engine bay, etc but i've decided that its time to get back to my roots since i was 15 yrs old (28 currently) and get the car back up and running, this time fully built. I'll share details as this thread goes along. Thanks for checking it out!

So one of the first things i did after the car went down was get the turbo, manifold, dump tube, and downpipe ceramic coated silver to keep engine temps down as much as possible.

So then i decided to clean up/shave/repaint the engine bay and paint it a different Mazda color. It was alot more work than i expected, it was my first time taking on a autobody project this complex, but i was bout that life lol. Here is a video and pictures showing you the process.

I ended up mig welding the unnecessary bolt holes shut, shaving off unused studs, making plates and welding the open fender wells. I made a little ghetto paint booth at the shop i was in at the time, but after all was said and done, she was ready for primer, and paint......

So on it went into primer. I used 2k primer, about 2-3 coats if i remember correctly, sanding in between each coat. I had my nephew (in the pic) tag along with me that night.

Then it was time to add some color! It was originally a tri-stage mazda color, but i had the paint shop make it a PPG 2 stage due to my inexperience. I did 3 coats of basecoat, these are the pics before clearcoat.

And last but not least, 3 coats of clear were applied. The color is Spicy Orange Metallic (code 25t), a mazdaspeed color. Attached are some photos and videos of the painted engine bay.

So i also had a custom intake manifold made by a local shop called LHT, they used a stock flange. The manifold is ported and polished, and im using a Ford mustang 3in throttle body. Im still undecided on whether to polish it, powder coat it or ceramic coat it. Any opinions?

Next i tackled the wiring and decided to do a milspec/race style harness with a quick disconnect at the firewall. I was using MS2 EFI already, so my wiring was already pretty clean, and this just makes things even neater.

Hey fellas, sorry about the delay on updating this thread! The Milspec connector is a 41 pin. I'm running ms2 with a db37 connector, so i thought i would end up using majority of them, but i ended up using maybe like 25 pins. Literally, just cut the harness in half and matched them up on the connector, of course you couldnt do that with an OEM harness because thats alot more complex. I found it on ebay for $40, took me about 1-2 hours to assemble both sides and then the raychem shrink boot (goes on connector on the engine side) was $15. LMK if i can help if you guys want to do the same on your build.

On to the build updates. My block is currently on the machine shop, the head is done. The motor setup is going to be:

                        Head:
bp4w solid lifter head, completely rebuilt with oem parts, port and polished (gasket match)
exhintake mod for now/Kelford or Tomei cams in the near future
                        adjustable cam gears
                        ARP headstuds
high flow fuel rail w/ 1000cc high impedence injectors (e85 & pump gas)
Custom intake manifold, Mustang cobra throttle body

                        Block:
                        Pauter forged I-beam rods
                        Supertech 9:5:1 forged pistons
                        King Race bearings
                        micropolished/knife-edged OEM crank
                        949 racing harmonic balancer

                        Transmission:
Stock G series with 5th gear swap
                        Amsoil Tranny fluid
                        Lightened flywheel
Spec Stage 3 clutch (will have to upgrade probably)

The idea for the car is an 11 sec street car on pump gas or e85. Im thinking i'll have to make approx 400whp to get me the desired result. Planning on running 16lbs low boost and 20-40lbs high boost if thats what it takes to achieve the power goals and track time. It has A/C, power options, etc so its a complete street car and i want to keep it that way.

Since NOBODY makes aftermarket radiators for the mx-3, i had the same company that built the radiator in my red mx-3, make me another one. Highly recommend them, VERY reasonable in price ($300-400), everyone else wanted $650+. I am going to be running 2 SPAL puller fans to keep the temps down and A/C cold. Also im gonna be running 16AN radiator hose fittings, just gotta get them welded. Here are some pics.

Lastly, i wanted to update the interior to make it look more modern. I bought some 5d gloss carbon fiber to wrap some pieces in and i like the way it turned out. I compared it to some of my real carbon fiber parts, and you cant tell the difference (visually of course). Heres what i got done so far, pardon the dirty/dusty car.

Next plans are upgrade brakes, run new brake lines before i get the block back from the machine shop. I'll probably also be doing some other minor things here and there. Stay tuned, thanks for checking it out!

Build is looking pretty tough. What are your plans for a heater hose since the bp4w head has a different fitting on the back?
