Toyota E153 transmission swap

parts are all here but i spent the day driving out to east butt-fk to look at a subaru outback. the guy told me on the phone blah blah yeah its in great shape no rust mint tires drives great etc. it sounded so nice i decided to haul ass out there to see it right away.

... i get there, it has rust on the edges of the fenders, brakes are shot at all 4 corners, brake pedal is VERY spongy, CEL is on, front tires are both on the wear bars, and there is a nasty tick in the engine (collapsed lifter?). what a waste of my entire afternoon.

then to add insult to injury my truck decided to refuse to start at the gas station on the way home. eventually got it to pop start, and now that i am home it starts just fine... ugh

well somehow i have misplaced enough tools between my dads house where i took the car apart, the shop where we did the mounts, and my house where i'm doing final assembly.... that i give up for the night lol. i'm missing my spark plug socket, 12mm box wrench, coolant funnel, this, that, the other thing, etc.

geez, i leave for three years and look what happens.. people start making thier own parts. necessity is the mother of invention, or something like that. double kudos to you, excellent work on the project thus far! (this thread took forever to read.) i can admit from my own ownership of turbo and 4WD BG's that the power limitations of the gearboxes played a huge part in limiting my own power decisions.. if this really works, it'll bust past the HP limit to what we currently can do. next problem will be keepin our 323's from getting airborne. :D .... whatever made you see the similarities between the gearbox boltup? were you familiar at the outset with the NZ kits?

yeah i had done my reasearch and was planning to buy a kit from NZ, but darryl stopped geting back to me... so i set out to do it on my own.

stuck waiting for axle nuts from toyota now. should have ordered them before... the ones i got from MCmaster carr will not work

as soon as the paint drys on my new spindles i'll be pressing in the wheel bearings and installing them with the RX7 ball joints. Pox was here earlier, i drove it up and down my street with no axle nuts installed lol

i need to find new slimline radiator fan, the one i was using is now like 1/4" too thick.

your a brave man i wouldnt drive my car without axle nuts. especially since its a new setup
