Sorry to tell you but i think the MX3 GS speed sensor is not the same as the Ford one. I know for sure the GT is electrical and the Mazda ones are mechanical, not sure about the MX3 GS tho. Some one correct me if im wrong.


You might be able to just put the entire speed cable along with sensor into the Mazda from the GT and be good. It connects the same behind the cluster.

You're right about them being different, but the EGT sensor is electrical AND mechanical- the speedo is run by a cable but there is definitely an electrical connector there.

Are people using the EGT sensor in the MX3 trans with this swap? I'm using stock EGT cluster for now. I'd like it to work.

It's there on pre-ABS cars and 1.9s, so probably not- I'll check my FSM later.

Your right Atomic, EGT is a combo of both with the Mazda is straight up mechanical.

Im assuming if your using the EGT cluster in your MX then ya your EGT speed sensor with cable shall work. give it a go.

is this thing done yet? im really contemplating gathering the parts to start this quickly. pretty sure my headgasket went on this junkyard engine and i can do the v6 swap cheaper than replacing the gasket and other parts

Rofl no it's not done.

Rest of the drivetrain, whole brake setup, and strut/coils are coming out tomorrow.

My transmission isn't done yet, either.

If it runs and drives at this point before the first snow, i'll be happy. Got sidetracked with the Meeotter.

Catching this thing up with a bump from the dead since i'm waiting on parts and such because this whole thing has been a gigantic cluster**** of things not fitting, Mazda not getting me the right arts, parts arriving broken, a car that fought me every step of the way in teardown, etc etc etc...

Do do doooooo...


Disgustingly dirty engine bay. Pretty sure the crank seal had gone out on this motor before i pulled it. It was leaking everything, everywhere. Can't believe it still ran. There was a half inch of oil gunk build up on the passenger side of the bay. :tard:









Test fit... suspension seems to be fitting well.








Cleaned and masked off. Notice the large patches of red paint just missing, exposing what looks to be bare metal underneath. This is where the biggest oil build-ups were. :lol:

Hideous garage is hideous.


It's not a Lightning, but it carries parts overnighted from Japan just fine!


Unloaded, doing some cleaning.


The doriftu car gets moved out for more workspace.


She's up on stands finally to finish up the teardown.


Stock exhaust vs. Corksport exhaust. Not a bad way to save 30-40lbs!


Cleaned up MX3 crossmember a bit. Should have seen how disgusting it was.
