Nothing is ever good enough for you is it Darren? Haha!

I dont know what the identifiers are, but being a ST185 rear end it could very well be a Torsen unit. Torsen or not, its still LSD which will do the job just fine for me.

I'm fairly certain all the rear LSDs are torsen for these. 185s anyway.

So I bought one of these.

            And one of these.

Looks like my tax returns are going to be large enough for me to get ahold of Jim and have him build me a Rear crossmember to mount the Differential to. Along with a few other goodies, FYEA.

I'd be curious to see what you and Jim come up with and whether or not it would work fairly easily with the stock 4wd body.

Jim's already made them before. It could be adapted to the 4wd, or have him make one with the 4wd subframe pickup points would be the best option.

I saw one that was made for a 240 diff but not the Celica diff. I may have missed it. Doe you know if the 2wd and 4wd pick ups are different?

Perhaps we could get a mini group buy together. I can think of probably 2 others besides beau and myself.

Pickups are different, but fairly close IIRC. There is a guy building a 4wd escort right now that is using Jim's gt4 rear subframe. It (the subframe) has been through a few members, but progress is coming along with the current owner it appears.

I was just going off information gleaned from WIkipedia. Said that some cars came Torsen, but I dont have a clue how true that info is.

Yep, probably get the diff housing media blasted and throw some subtle powdercoat on it. Itll be after getting the rear crossmember made, since they are going to match

If your pick up points are different, which I believe they are as Cody said, a group buy doesnt do much good. :p Im sure if we coordinated well enough we could figure something out with Jim to get work done in bulk. As far as clearance on the sheetmetal, Ill be sure to report back to you 4 months from now when I might be able to have things rolling on this cars teardown.

Yep, Kronos car is going to be frickin rad! I dont plan on sticking with a Mazda motor though.

if your having jim make you a rear subframe. i like to get one made up at the same time for the celica rear diff.
perhaps he'd be willing to make a jig for building up a couple rear subframes.

It doesn't look too difficult to adapt the GT4 diff into the 4WD rear subframe anyway. If there were some real benefit, such as it being light weight chromoly, and all pillow ball arms or something, I could be down for one. BF and BG are the same apparantly, so there might be some interest there.

Perhaps. That certainly seems to be the consensus.

Chromoly is a must! And Jim makes the pillowball arms already. http://www.piercemotorsport.com/servlet/Detail?no=19

Ill be sure to discuss options further with Jim once I get the ball rolling on this. Hoping he has more pics of the one he built that Krono is using.

Alright, I finally purchased a full set of AWD Knuckles, the rears from the UK, and the Fronts from Canada, thanks to Dam_Kid and familia_UK for dealing with me!

Just picked up a ST205 GT4 full shifter assembly, complete with TRD shift knob, The ST205 Driveshaft has arrived at my house, ST185 Rear diff still on its way.

And correspondence has begun with Jim Pierce for epic fabrication porn to be created. :D

Modding the rear subframe for the toyota diff was about the easiest part of the job for me. As far as whether that diff is open or torsen, you may be able to see the wormgears if you pop a stub axle out but I think you get to take the cover off. They didn't come with anything other than open or torsen. I think there clutch clutch diffs available but not OEM.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.
