    Escort Wagon RS- RallyBoss

Picked up the car March 9th for $700. It was quite ugly. Interior wasn't too rough, but the exterior just resemble a white trash battle wagon. Originally priced at $900 + DMV rape, I was able to walk away with $700 spent. Here's the wagon how I picked it up, but imagine the basket not there.

The Plan: Simple, make it look presentable, and tough enough for use for on stage duties, and all other stuff that people usually use SUVs or pickups for. And be able to have 'fun'

In other words, clean it up. I want to make a wagon that Ford would have produced from the factory under the RS (rallysport) badge, and look as clean as possible.

swapping a BP is definitely going to happen, and the more I think about it, and the more I drive it right now, I do plan on boosting. No doubt. But a snail isn't in the immediate plan. Debating on either hotbits gravel spec suspension, or going coil-overs, so I can adjust according to surface/driving style/duties. It will get a proper rally spec protection plan! And even plan on fabbing a lightbar.

Interior: Plan is to get some sporty seats. Swapping over MX3 seats in the meantime, yet debating on some competition seats down the line. I'd like to replace the entire interior with a gray tone, as the blue that's in there is just too 90's for me... And it's not following the theme of 'RS'. Replacing the audio components will happen, also putting in a 12v socket in the hatch.

In the first month I owned the car, I was actually living out of it. Now that I'm in a house again, I've been doing some work.

Swapped in mx-3 recaro style front seats, replaced both bumpers with color matched. Replaced door handles with color match, swapped over door side trim for the thicker white kind. Found some awesome mud flaps from the wrecking yard, and found a very clean hatch to replace the dented blue one. Also, the rear wiper works now. I've also replaced the headlights with a brand new pair, swapped in Tracer tails and corners (also have clears incase I want to swap) And I placed a vinyl pin stripe around the bumpers. I like how the pinstripe turned out, so when I get time, I'll be painting it myself. On the rear bumper, I've put on some RV foot step grip panels, for a bumper protector. With the equipment and material I will be dragging in and out of the back, it's a great idea, and looks awesome! Swapped over some front visors from another escort as those in the wagon were torn up, and wanted the kind with the vanity mirrors and lights. Oh yeah, don't forget the window vent guards. Love em, put them on every car I've owned. And They look great!

I've swapped in a new headunit, and this is awesome. First time I've been able to listen to a stereo in the a car of mine for almost 3 years. No more headphones.

    Things i'm currently working on:
Yanked a hood release cable from the yard today, and trying to source a clean front passenger fender. Bo and I keep trying to find time to swap the LX rear disks, but schedules/weather conflict regularly. New grille soon hopefully, either EGT, RMM, or custom. I have window tint on the way, and I have some wheels (e30 bottlecaps) sitting in the rear waiting to get put on. all 5! I am thinking about getting them powder coated white before I install them though.. OH, and i'm thinking about getting rid of all the crap black liner/trim beneath the window, and possible replacing with vinyl..

Soon enough, I hope to get manual belts, and power windows, while I'll be putting a HAM radio in, and also a roof vent. Playing around with ideas for the center console, I really want a center arm rest, and more buttons lol. But again, I'm trying to make this a clean, FACTORY look, that Ford woul have done if they made a badass wagon.

I'm so excited about this car, you have no idea! I already love it, and love where I'm going with it. Plan to keep it until it's wrapped around a tree.

Total Invested (including price of car): $1240

Those bottle caps will look nice on there! They work so well on a wagon, except the hub bore :/ Sub'n for sure. Oh, and an "RS" wagon should have this grille:

But he's trying to keep it looking like it was factory built. A protege front clip won't look like that. But anyways, I remember seeing a few rally parts for the escort a while back. I'm going to do a little thinking to try and remember where I saw them.

Yeah, i know. But for some reason it just doesn't look right. Might just be the gap between the lights and the bumper and the color on cody's car.

I think he should go for an escort rs cosworth look. Cosworth hood vents, front light pod (take a look at this site. They have a light pod on there from an escort cosworth! http://www.rscosworthbreakers.co.uk/body.html),and a few other rs bits. It hasn't been done before on a wagon, and it would look pretty good.

Oh that gap is long gone. It was gone two days after that pic. And if you paint matched it, nobody would ever suspect it wasn't meant to be.

The bugeye grille looks pretty damn good actually. If anyone has gotten around to making mold of it, I'd really think about doing that, and workin in a ford badge instead of the familia. but i' won't do it to an oem part.

And yeah, the Cosy is a big influence. I plan on doing cosy hood vents, talking to a dude in the UK right now working something out. Also talking to some teams who jump the pond a few times a year, and seeing if they'll carry parts over with them for me. Thanks for posting the link. Haven't seen that site before.

                Here's the latest work:
Bo and I finally got around to doing the rear sub swap. Took much longer than expected, and the rain SUCKED BAWLS!
Also test fit a wheel. Yesterday, I finally got around to installing the comms and had to replace my atenna today. This week looks like it will be productive, so I'll try and get another update up closer to the weekend.

I keep meaning to get a mold done up, but the guy I know, who makes Carbon Fiber Goalie Hockey masks and was going to teach me to do it (Composite work) is really busy all the time/hard to get ahold of. I'm starting to get fed up, and might just attempt to make an EGT grille mold, and if that works out, I'll then attempt the bugeye. I know the basics, and can research the actual procedure, but it's nice to have a mentor on stuff like this. He also taught me how to mig-weld really well, so it'd be cool to have some guidance on this project too. Especially since the Masks he does are pre-preg (Legit)

Anyhow, If I do get around to it, you and a few others, like James, will be the first to know.

Not as much progress as I'd like. Extremely busy planning Oregon Trail Rally again. Took possession of an RMM Grille (not replica). Installed HAM, and CB. Put down a tacky but useful cargo liner in the hatch. Was hoping to have tint done by now, as well as the pin stripe actually painted, but I just haven't had time. I popped in a weighter shift knob from a 2nd gen pro, mx3 rear console, and EGT foglight switch too! I do need to get around to replacing the hood release cable, but the underbody bolts for the fenders are PITA.

                    Immediate tasks after OTR:
                    Hood release cable
                    Pass fender
                    Paint pinstripe

Kool build! I think the bimmer wheels are ball seat, so make sure to get ball seat wheel nuts. Dare I say it a "Honda" Civic would have 12 x 1.5 mm ball seat nuts. (factory Honda wheel nuts). Stock Fordzda nuts are cone seat, and the wheels will remove themselves with those on LOL

Prepped every stage today for OTR, and it was a long days work. Some of the roads are rough and unforgiving. But! they did make for some cool shots!
