Picked up the car March 9th for $700. It was quite ugly. Interior wasn't too rough, but the exterior just resemble a white trash battle wagon. Originally priced at $900 + DMV rape, I was able to walk away with $700 spent. Here's the wagon how I picked it up, but imagine the basket not there.
The Plan: Simple, make it look presentable, and tough enough for use for on stage duties, and all other stuff that people usually use SUVs or pickups for. And be able to have 'fun'
In other words, clean it up. I want to make a wagon that Ford would have produced from the factory under the RS (rallysport) badge, and look as clean as possible.
swapping a BP is definitely going to happen, and the more I think about it, and the more I drive it right now, I do plan on boosting. No doubt. But a snail isn't in the immediate plan. Debating on either hotbits gravel spec suspension, or going coil-overs, so I can adjust according to surface/driving style/duties. It will get a proper rally spec protection plan! And even plan on fabbing a lightbar.
Interior: Plan is to get some sporty seats. Swapping over MX3 seats in the meantime, yet debating on some competition seats down the line. I'd like to replace the entire interior with a gray tone, as the blue that's in there is just too 90's for me... And it's not following the theme of 'RS'. Replacing the audio components will happen, also putting in a 12v socket in the hatch.
In the first month I owned the car, I was actually living out of it. Now that I'm in a house again, I've been doing some work.
Swapped in mx-3 recaro style front seats, replaced both bumpers with color matched. Replaced door handles with color match, swapped over door side trim for the thicker white kind. Found some awesome mud flaps from the wrecking yard, and found a very clean hatch to replace the dented blue one. Also, the rear wiper works now. I've also replaced the headlights with a brand new pair, swapped in Tracer tails and corners (also have clears incase I want to swap) And I placed a vinyl pin stripe around the bumpers. I like how the pinstripe turned out, so when I get time, I'll be painting it myself. On the rear bumper, I've put on some RV foot step grip panels, for a bumper protector. With the equipment and material I will be dragging in and out of the back, it's a great idea, and looks awesome! Swapped over some front visors from another escort as those in the wagon were torn up, and wanted the kind with the vanity mirrors and lights. Oh yeah, don't forget the window vent guards. Love em, put them on every car I've owned. And They look great!
I've swapped in a new headunit, and this is awesome. First time I've been able to listen to a stereo in the a car of mine for almost 3 years. No more headphones.
Things i'm currently working on:
Yanked a hood release cable from the yard today, and trying to source a clean front passenger fender. Bo and I keep trying to find time to swap the LX rear disks, but schedules/weather conflict regularly. New grille soon hopefully, either EGT, RMM, or custom. I have window tint on the way, and I have some wheels (e30 bottlecaps) sitting in the rear waiting to get put on. all 5! I am thinking about getting them powder coated white before I install them though.. OH, and i'm thinking about getting rid of all the crap black liner/trim beneath the window, and possible replacing with vinyl..
Soon enough, I hope to get manual belts, and power windows, while I'll be putting a HAM radio in, and also a roof vent. Playing around with ideas for the center console, I really want a center arm rest, and more buttons lol. But again, I'm trying to make this a clean, FACTORY look, that Ford woul have done if they made a badass wagon.
I'm so excited about this car, you have no idea! I already love it, and love where I'm going with it. Plan to keep it until it's wrapped around a tree.
Total Invested (including price of car): $1240
